So today my spring break vacation has been booked, Riviera Maya, and I believe I have access to a beach, so we all know what that means. I'm looking for a rod I can fit in a suitcase, with a reel, just something that will get the job done. I've never done this in my life, I have zero guidance so far, so I am counting on you guys. Any info on the rod and reel, or how to fish there.

Il be there six days, so I'm looking for a budget combo, looks like il have to spend around $120?

Baits?

Heck, if someone had a really old combo they didn't want anymore I'd even be interested in buying that.

I do have a 10wt saltwater fly rod that I use for musky, and I have saltwater line from when I went to Florida, would I be better off with that?

Really any info at all would be helpful, thank you!

Riviera Maya?  Do you mean the Yucatan Costa Rica area?

I've been there, played golf at Playa del Carmen but didn't fish, it's the Yucatan Peninsula not too far from Belize. You might be a bit too far from Cancun to buy anything, I think it's about 45 minutes.  I can't really say what the beach conditions are like there but the flyrod sounds like a pretty good option if the winds from the east aren't too bad.

In that area a trip to Xcaret is a worthwhile adventure and you are pretty close to Cozumel.
