Super User A-Jay Posted January 4, 2014 Super User Posted January 4, 2014 Like so many large bodies of water it's all about the weather; especially in the spring & Fall. Clear water is your friend. And don't forget to purchase the correct licenses (if necessary) and to familiarize yourself with the applicable regulations; even if you plan on releasing your catch. Good Luck A-Jay Quote

Are you going out of the Buffalo area or over by Barcelona or Dunkirk? Typically in the right areas you can expect to catch lots of numbers if using live bait. But the size will not be as big as you are hoping for. The only area I ever fished in New York for smallies in lake erie was out of sturgeon point marina near the town of Evans. What guide are you using? Pray for clear water & manageable winds & you will have a great time. Quote

I am not exactly sure of the guide yet, but on multiple websites it said that if the conditions are right, you can expect to boat 100 smallmouth and one of those fish will likely top 6.5lbs. I hope it is true! Quote
