BassObsessed Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Terminator and Assassinator make nice spinnerbaits. Quote
Jacob044 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 After hanging with the family for a bit, I managed to go out right before sundown. I was throwing the spinnerbait again not getting any bites until.... a 4lb+ beauty slammed my bait. She made a beautiful headshake with her gills fully flared and then my bait popped out. As I was reeling it back in I could not believe she threw the hook, I had a trailer hook on it, the hit was solid. When I reeled in my bait my spinnerbait was broken broke in half!!!! The wire severed right where you tie off. I had the portion of the blades, the fish took the head, skirt, and trailer hook. I was so disappointed. I have been using strictly Booyah spinnerbaits. What spinnerbaits do you guys recommend? I do not want this to happen again!! Â It can happen to all of them Lou. They only take so many bends and each time they get bent, the metal weakens. Not the product generally but the use. Quote

Pz3 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I always wanted to see some kind of lures made out of that fancy space grade memory metal. Like these glasses: Â Spinnerbait would be a good candidate! Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Haha one of my friends at work had glasses like this. He would always take them off and bend them, show everyone how awesome they are and one day after his millionth successful showings he tried it and snapped it in half. Woops. Now he has new glasses and doesn't attempt to bend them any more. Quote

I guess maybe thats why there are no spinner baits made out of it yet lol. Quote

LOL...  Lou, don't know about the titanium ones but I have had several of my wire ones break over the years due to fish bending them up and making adjustments to straighten them back. The wire only takes so many bends. Quote
piscicidal Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I had to go to titanium spinner baits when snakehead fishing....they thrash around bending up the wire. Â I might break 2-3 spinnerbaits a day on snakeheads before going to the titanium... Â The bass don't fight as hard or as ferociously, but the principle is the same. Â Over time, the wire is going to be bent back and forth, eventually it will yield and break. Â I've had good luck with the war eagles on bass, but when the paint starts getting chipped up and the hook starts getting a little dull, I know it's time to throw it away. Â I'm not going to risk losing a monster bass to a compromised wire. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted February 24, 2014 Super User Posted February 24, 2014 Thanks for the info guys! Everyone is making good points. It was an older spinnerbait. I have caught several nice fish from it, and I also I had to re-tune it a few times. Unfortunately, a nice bass was the straw that broke the spinnerbaits back... Quote

Jacob044 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 In between jobs today, I stepped out to the park for a little bit and caught this guy on a stick bait.....    OK, y'all are making me crazy. I have been out for two days throwing everything at them and only had one hit. crank baits, spinner baits, worms, swimming baits, senko's, all kinds of modified baits to increase flash and entice reaction bites but nothing. My river has gone on vacation. Bass are not on the bed here yet in my river. Going to Tarpon lake tomorrow to see what's up there. Quote
Pz3 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I got to do a little fishing today. Had to do some business near West Lake Toho so I stopped for an hour and tossed in that new spinner bait. Landed a nice bass about the same size as Lou. Was a good fight suprisingly I was expecting 5lbs at least. Poor guys on the pier were there all day and caught nothing. I come walking up and 5 minutes later reeling one in. I also pulled in a Pike over 30 inches. That guy had me going because I thought for sure it was a bass when I seen him miss the first hit. 1 Quote
Pz3 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Did a little bait shopping earlier today. It almost got a little crazy but my smarter half of my brain had to say no to a lot of the things I wanted. I did manage to pick these up though. Â Â Bitters Green Pumpkin Vibe. Â Bitters 7.5Inch Black Original Worms. Â Â Xcalibur X50 Pearl Melon (single weight) Â Â Â Went out on the boat today around noon with my uncle for a few hours. The lake we were on is mostly reeds with very little other cover. We tried doing some drifting with plastics and a lot of spinner bait action. Ended up empty handed. Seen crappie hitting on something (top water) tossed in a couple beetle spins but they weren't interested. Â Made a run to the bait shop after lunch..... Â Tried again late in the day 6-7pm at the Fish Camp. I didn't have much luck throwing the new hard bait so switched over to the green pumpkin ultravibe. Fishing in heavy cover again looking for the fish and sure enough found one. 4-5lb female that got hung up in the lilly pads right as I was about to pull her up. Trying to get her out she manged to get off the hook. Nice fish though. Other guy was using live brim and landed a couple nice bass, and another guy was landing a few with brown pumpkin sinkos. All in all. Its nice to see my 10lb test (trilene) can handle a good size fish in that kind of mess. 1 Quote
Pz3 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Fished lake underhill for an hour. Got 3 bites and landed a female 4-5lbs. Using the black bitters worm on heavy cover in the pooring rain. 1 Quote
Tartan34 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Nice work on the Bitters Vibe....Really solid bait. Â Fished Butler today....buddy and I probably caught a 15+ lb sack, not bad for this time of year. Â Nothing topwater, nothing on a single swimbait, nothing on any kind of shallow/med diving crankbait. Â Caught a few decent ones on lizards and then hammered them on frogs. Â Nothing huge, but a lot of 3 pounders. 1 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted February 27, 2014 Super User Posted February 27, 2014 Went to the park for a little bit. Saw a lot of fish, but they were playing hard to get none the less. Managed to catch 3, 1 went for 3lbs, the others were 2's. Spinnerbait bite still getting their attention. 3 Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Went to the park today at 5 and caught 3 in about an hour! They were all small the biggest was 10.5 ounces. Using a bitsy bug with a small craw trailer. 1 Quote

Caught 3 around 1lb or less, Which is strange to me, that Bitters Vibe I've been using is pretty dang fat. Manage to find one around 3lbs as well. Was pretty chilly today so they were put off until the sun poked out. Nice to see three of us with similare results for a change 1 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted February 28, 2014 Super User Posted February 28, 2014 Had an interesting day at the park. Work was light, so  I was able to go out in the morning, chilly, overcast, winds from the NW. Fished the back lake this time before the ski boat started up. Was able to land 3, 2lbrs and lost a nice 3.5-4lbr.  All spinnerbait again. Then I got a call from the school to check on one of my kids, and on the way back from some errands stopped at a canal and landed this nice piggy, same spinnerbait.  2 Quote
Michaelt1987 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Went to Ga for a few days and caught 6 on a white spinnerbait. Most were on the small side but we couldn't get the boat back in the woods. Glad to be back in Jax though. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted February 28, 2014 Super User Posted February 28, 2014 Nice looking lake. All them trees and stumps in the water. Nice fish Quote
Michaelt1987 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Nice looking lake. All them trees and stumps in the water. Nice fish Yeah it's got great cover and a nice spot of lily pads. I caught my pb there a few years back on a frog. Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Went to the park after work and landed 2 Bass. One was small about 9 1/2 inches long and skinny. The other was a nice chubby 2.6 lbs. Â Â I'm loving the new rod and reel and those bitsy bug jigs with the chunk paca craw in sapphire blue. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted March 1, 2014 Super User Posted March 1, 2014 Nice job Rick you really been on the fish last couple days. Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 The only difference is the rod I've been using and the fact I downsized to small jigs and small trailers. My fishing techniques really haven't changed. I may have slowed down just a little bit more but not much. Quote
