SFL BassHunter Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Hmmm, fishing before work, that sounds good. My job is right next to a canal, I just need to cross the street and fish. I think I might give that a go... Or heck I might even try for lunch. I'm sure my coworkers will think I'm a crazy person but whatever! LOL 2 Quote

They are more shocked when I don't stop, lol. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 Well I will sleep in for an hour and go nose around the pond at the shopping center down the road since it is only a stones thrown. I know what can be had but I also know how hard you need to work to get at them too lol I figure they all will be huddle down right in the middle...toss a jig in there...like shooting fish in a barrell right Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 Nope, didn't make it to stop and fish this morning. Too cold! Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 25 this morning on the dashboard therm. Made it to the pond lasted about 10-15 minutes Ice all over guides, line and reel...this is florida really I had flash backs to winter fishing in va Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 If I could, I would have tried to do some fishing today. Definitely not in the times I call MCS or LMG times. Which is in the early, early hours of the morning. I would try now thru about 4:30. After that, I would hang it up for the following day. The temp, is one thing, and this constant hard North wind is another. Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 Well tomorrow Warmer....slightly....I will grab the glass rod and jerkbait see if that blows their skirt up and since I haven't thrown a suspending in a looong time Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 Bearings are greased, spare is mounted, the boat is ready for the trip. Now if I can convince the wife to ride in the boat on the way up there. Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I woke up an hour early, opened my front door, went back inside and went back to sleep. LOL. Got up an hour later and went to work. Didn't make it out but I did pass by the place near work that looked perfect for bass fishing, and of course the department of transportation of all government entities has signs all over saying No Trespassing. Super User geo g Posted January 8, 2014 Super User Posted January 8, 2014 There is a canal in Davie that i use to fish a long time ago when i was a kid it is at nob hill and griffen ive seen some real big ones come out of there so i decided to change it up and go for them. That canal in Davie along Griffen Road has had large freshwater snook for years further east, at the intersection of Orange Drive and SR441. There is a pump station at this location. When there is some current flowing, you can get snook action time after time. These are land locked freshwater snook. Quote

Yes i grew up in davie i lived right next door to the fire station on Orange Dr just west of davie rd. I have seen some monster snook in there and even some of the side canals. They were always snagging the brim and bait fish i would catch with bread when i was about 10 years old lol. Scared the poop out of me when i was that young and saw a big violent splash and then 2 seconds later my line would snap. Quote
dsidle61 Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 stopped at the pond by my place today for about 25 minutes to celebrate the fact that it got over 30 degrees for the first time in two days. Was throwing the senko and fishing it painfullllllllllly slow. I mean to the point where I was getting bored lol. But it paid off In the end caught a nice chunky 18". I didn't even feel the thing tap my line I just went to bounce my senko and it felt like I had a patch of weeds. I started to reel in and the weeds started swimming so I set the hook on her. After I saw how that thing hit I called it a day bc these fish are still hibernating. Hopefully the warmer temps thurs, fri, and Saturday wake them up bc the boat is getting wet this weekend no matter what. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted January 8, 2014 Super User Posted January 8, 2014 ^ yea boi lol I haven't been fishing all week and won't be til the weekend but will be out with u on the boat. I hope the fish come out with us and this warmer weather. Suppose to be nice Saturday - Monday and those r my days. Quote

Michaelt1987 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I went around 1:00 today and fished with a few different brushhogs. Then used a fluke for a short while with no strikes. Put on a culprit incredi craw and pitched at a drain that had water flowing in the pond and got a hit but missed it. Tossed it back and he smashed it. About a 4-5 lb bass. Would of stayed a lil longer but I forgot my hoodie at home. 2 Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 I like the incredi craws for that. They have been a good bait. Quote
Michaelt1987 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I like the incredi craws for that. They have been a good bait. I just got them a week ago. My gf got me a gift card from bass pro. What's a good place to buy baits at around here with the best selection? Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 I just got them a week ago. My gf got me a gift card from bass pro. What's a good place to buy baits at around here with the best selection? It varies. Strike zone on beaches has more high end or pro stuff but limited selection. They also sell bitters bait. Academy has grande bass and big bite bait stuff. Dicks is good well rounded has some good sales. That is where I got the incredi craws. Gander is ok, I usually on get sale stuff there. But everything on sale I bought has produced and they are more funky of colors than usual lol Walmart for hard baits sometimes you can get spooks, rebel minnows for $3 and mirrolure are a couple bucks cheaper. What's a good place to buy baits at around here with the best selection? Stick with online the bait selection at our local stores all suck. The best Academy is in Orange Park and the best Dicks Sporting Goods is over by the town center, IMO, the academy is a fact though lol. I always use TW unless I have gift cards to BPS then I will go that route. But different stores around here carry different brands that's why I stick to TW.com they basically have everything even tons of stuff BPS doesn't carry. Quote
