ostate_hayes Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Hey Yall, Im new to this site so just wantin to start out by sayin howdy. Anyways, I know its a little early to be askin this but any of yall have any experience fishing in Flint Creek in Oklahoma/Arkansas? I headed there in March or April and Im wantin to learn as much as I can to catch a lot of fish. Even give me any info that you have found fishin places like this. Its a river with some fast moving areas and slow moving areas with very, very clear water. I have fished there once before and my buds and me caught some smallies and largemouth that were small but fought pretty good. there are oxbows, weedbeds, waterfalls, rapids for features. Any tips or techniques? Im the kinda teenager savin up for a truck so I only have a 7 foot medium heavy rod with a 6.4 to 1 gear ratio baitcaster and a 6 foot 6 medium action rod with a spinner reel on it. Thanks for Anything and I Hope to Talk To Yall More, Christian Quote
michael68w Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Hey I have no expierence on the river you're talking about but I fish some very similar streams here in missouri. All the streams I fish are very clear spring fed streams. I use three different baits pretty heavily: 1. 4-5inch curl tail grub in green pumpkin or avocado. I normally throw it on a 1/8-3/16oz ball head jig and swim it back. You can vary your retrieve until you find what they like. When there's a lot of swift current or you want to fish deeper you can step up to 1/4oz. I used a 7 foot medium fast tapper spinning rod with 8lb fluro. 2. 3-3.5 tube on a 1/4oz tube jig in any darker brown or greens (brown melon, pumpkin, green pumpkin, etc I like tubes that have copper, purple, blue or green flake) I slowly drag these along the bottom and just hope it every now and then. The tube bite is light and you often won't feel it most of the time the line just feels heavy. I use the same rod and line as the grub. 3. 3/16-1/4oz football jig with craw trailer (brown purple flash, green pumpkin blue, any variation of those has worked for me) work it similar to the tube. Medium rod should work fine but I normally use 10lb for my jigs. Another bait work mentioning is inline spinners like mepps, silver fox etc. 1 Quote
