Super User Oregon Native Posted December 31, 2013 Super User Posted December 31, 2013 Having lived in Oregon for most of my life it's been really hard to take some of my tackle out of my boat. I know and believe it will work out here it's just that it doesn't for me very well. I even use 20# on my flippin stick now! Sooo last night took out all my crankbait boxes and went through em all and took out one's that haven't seen water for three years and even some that have. Came up with an empty 3700. Shad, shad, shad that's what I'm trying to learn. Maybe a few panfish and crawfish thrown in but those darn shad have got me scratchin my head for sure. It's getting better but oh what a learnin curve. Tight Lines Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 31, 2013 Super User Posted December 31, 2013 Well, I guess I don't really understand the issue. Threadfin shad are just another baitfish. In shallow water I think other profiles are as good or better. When it seems the fish are only forcused on shad, soft paddle tail swimbaits can be killer (Keitech Swing Swing Impact Fat, Berkley Hollow Belly, Shadalicious and YUM Money Minnow). In 2013 my go-to was a NorthStar Original Swim Jig/ Rage Tail Menace or Shellcracker. Jerkbaits are my favorite class of lures and seem to produce year around for me. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 31, 2013 Global Moderator Posted December 31, 2013 Sooooo, you're having to clean out baits and tackle you used to catch fish on that doesn't work for you now that you relocated? I've got some baits that I had magical days with one time and then barely get bit after that, but I keep carrying them because you never know. Quote
5fishlimit Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Sounds like you're trying to find an excuse to take the bait monkey on a date to the tackle shop. LOL 2 Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted January 2, 2014 Author Super User Posted January 2, 2014 Don't get me wrong...I'm a tackle junkie and can remember everytime we headed south from Oregon for a tourney we had to stop by Phils Props in Redding and drop some cash and then wonder why we spent so much. I remember my first year here in Tenn that the lil shad rap and a pony head caught me a lot of fish. Now I'm trying different baits and it's getting better and better. Don't plan on moving so may have to get rid of some hardbaits. (So I can get some new colors and styles in the ol boat) I used to love hot lips for instance and have a ton of originals...but I can't catch Pooh on em here. Tight Lines Quote
