BigAL Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 What do you think is a fair market value of a 1998 Bass Tracker Pro 175, with 40hp? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 31, 2013 Super User Posted December 31, 2013 $2910 is what it books on NADA for average retail. Quote
BigAL Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Thanks!!!!!He is asking $4,000 which I thought was high even though the boat is in really good shape. Quote
zachb34 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 The boats in good shape maybe the price is because of upgraded electronics or maybe trolling motor and battery's Quote

zachb34 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Upgraded electronics can add some value. Trolling motor, and batteries do not.So your saying a boat that came with a 12v 46# thrust that now has a 24v 70# thrust doesn't add any value? To me that's a big difference Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 31, 2013 Super User Posted December 31, 2013 So your saying a boat that came with a 12v 46# thrust that now has a 24v 70# thrust doesn't add any value? To me that's a big difference It is a big difference in people wanting to buy the boat maybe but it isn't a value adder. Much like Jeeps with lifts and big tires etc....it adds to people wanting the jeep but does little to nothing for overall value. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 31, 2013 Super User Posted December 31, 2013 So your saying a boat that came with a 12v 46# thrust that now has a 24v 70# thrust doesn't add any value? To me that's a big difference You still have to look at it as a 16yo boat. A rebuilt motor adds zero value and a new motor adds little value. Your SI/DI technology will add about 50% of their value to the boat meaning, an 1198, which currently retails at $1800, might add $900 of value. A shallow water anchor, no matter what the brand, will add $1k of value to the boat. The upgraded electronics and anchor are also something the seller can remove from the boat and sell them separately. He wouldn't get squat for an old trolling motor or used batteries. Like flyfisher said, it adds to the attractiveness which might result in a quicker sale, just not to the value. Then again if the buyer believes he is getting a good deal, who am I to argue. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 31, 2013 Super User Posted December 31, 2013 Back to the OP. Boat looks clean from the pic. Have the motor checked out, crawl around in the compartments to see if there is any signs of standing water. Make sure the transom is strong and all the accessories work. Check the wheel bearings and tires as well. I would use NADA as a guide but it's not set in stone. If all checks out, Start at $3k and see how low you can get it for. 2 Quote
BigAL Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Thank you Slonezp for the advice Quote
Chief 2 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I just sold a very clean 2001 185 with a good running 50 HP Merc for 4800 here in Fla. There is real junk out there for crazy $$. One dealer offered me 3K for mine on a trade and Bass Pro in Orlando said over the phone 1800 to 2100. You know what I told him! Get the motor checked out, compression especially. Good luck! Quote
Insanity Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 He'd get 3k easy here in tn. Most likely the 4. If it looks as good in person. In Florida. I have no idea. Great info slonezp! That might come in handy one day. A long time family friend offered me his boat. 18 ft Ranger 150 hp for 8k back a few years ago. What year did they come out with fiber glass wheel wells on the trailer. It's was that year boat. Thinking it was 1989. Heck I don't recall. But everything looked brand spanking new. That was my price. I think it was 12 k he was asking. , My stepfather sold boats a good many years ago. Said it might not bring 8k due to its age. Heck back then it wouldn't have. Boats that still float had went threw the roof sense then. I think it was 15 years old then. ( I think he didn't no squat. It's a Ranger! 36 k new I think it was back then. ). Same boat the tournament guy used to win. Anyway I wasn't fishing as much at that time. So I only looked it over. Never got serious about looking for the money to buy it. But it only had one mark on it. A 1 inch long burnish on the rubber bumper rail where it had rubbed a dock one time. Bottom had never touched anything. Never set out side. And it had the perfect color black paint with at least 5 colors of metal flake. One of the prettiest boats I've ever seen. He even insisted he wanted the motor looked at and serviced before he sold it. Because it hadn't been ran for a year. All batteries had been replaced the year before also. He threw in all fishing tackle about 15 rod which wasn't anything it wanted but still. The only thing it didn't have was shallow water anchors. Because there hadn't came out yet. Lol. The only down side I could see was the age of the fiber glass. But it had never even set in the sun for longer then a day on the water. Bet it hadn't been in on the water 40 times. Lord I wish I'd bought it now. I don't no what the book said it was worth and I wouldn't have even carried. I no he took ten from another friend the second the guy seen it he wrote the check. I think I'm gonna be sick thinking about it again. Wouldn't be worth squat by now I'm my hands. But man I might have been fishing pro. If I'd gotten something that nice looking to fish from. Yep I'm sick. Quote

BigAL Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 I do have some skepticism about buying a boat mainly cause I never owned one before but the way I look at I am sure I am gonna have some problems and it isnt gonna be perfect but neither is life instead of sitting around wondering what it would be like to own a boat and be able to enjoy these great fisheries I am gonna go for it and buy a boat and go thru the experience like many have before me.Thanks guys for all the advice and btw I found a 2006 with 60hp he is asking $8,000 for more money but looks mint and I will have a mechanic check it out thoroughly thanks again and Happy New Year! Or 2006 Nitro 16FT 60 HP MERCURY- $7500 Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 First thing I noticed on that last tracker is the wheels are different. Definitely check into that and see whats up as a bent axle from impact could cause you a lot of issues down the road. The trailer is just as important as the boat itself. 1 Quote
