ZB85 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I'm about to purchase a new rod. Its either going to be a Denali Kovert 7'8" flippin rod or the Kovert 7'2" worm and jig rod. I guess the real question is, I own a Veritas 7'6"mh and Im wondering if that rod would be sufficient for flipping and pitching. If not I would like a true flippin stick. I throw Jigs and soft plastics a lot that's why I'm looking to upgrade my worm and jig rod(currently using a Powell Diesel 7'3"). This is really just a personal dilemma on my part but just looking to see what some of you would do. Quote
Basseditor Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I hate when guys reply with "depends". In your case do you have very heavy cover? Some of my lakes, I need extra heavy flipping rods but others heavy is enough. Quote
Arv Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I would think the veritas would be ok as long as you don't have ultra heavy cover you're fishing. I would look into getting the best worm/jig rod you can as that should greatly improve that style of fishing. 1 Quote

One spot that i go to alot the cover gets pretty heavy but most the other lakes that i fish not so much. The veritas rod i have isnt even a heavy though its just a MH but it is a pretty stout rod. kickbasskid Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Hey just a chime in here but if your looking into a Denali you should get in contact with Ron from Valley Sports! One of the sites sponsors he has some of the best deals on the internet. Also I would definately say since you don't have much heavy cover to deal with that you should go with the worm/jig rod! Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 31, 2013 Super User Posted December 31, 2013 If your Veritas is anything like my 7'6" MH Villain, then it should work fine for the majority of the areas you described. I would keep weights 5/8 oz. (total weight) or heavier...again if it is like my Villain. However, a new rod is always welcome. Quote

IMO the Veritas is a little stiffer than advertised so that MH is more like a cross between an average MH and H. Quote

This is really just a personal dilemma on my part but just looking to see what some of you would do. I've said it time and time again. The 7'8 Kovert is my favorite rod in that line up. It is not a broom stick which I hate, it has a great tip on so you can feather your cast next to cover. I stopped calling it a flipping stick because I find the rod to be quite versatile. I've thrown a Carolina rig, flutter spoon, umbrella rig and still experimenting. Au Garcia rods are a bit heavier than what they are marked being I had a 7'6 veritas when they first came out. Check out the 7'8 man you will love it. Quote
