airborne_angler Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Ive seen where this is a staple in some anglers arsenal Skirts with a mix of Black and Blue Strands and a trailer with black and blue laminate or swirl What about the skirt and trailer totally contrasting each other. Like a Solid Black skirted jig and an electric blue trailer...is this still considered to be "black and blue" like everyone normally throws Does anyone have first hand experience of how effective a black and blue mix like I first mentioned above would stack up against the second example I mentioned. I would consider it a black and blue jig but most situations that a black and blue jig work in you just need a dark colored jig so having blue in the skirt or not probably won't matter. 1 Quote

I started off with a black/blue jig with a matching trailer and if I didn't get any bites I would switch to a black jig and sapphire trailer. Same colors but in a different arrangement. Quote

A sapphire blue jig and trailer is a good color in stained water that doesn't get fished very often also. Sapphire blue with a purple trailer is another good one. Quote

Sapphire Blue has no red That may be true in Texas, however "neon" in CA was a blood line created by John "Zank" Viazanko by using butterfly or moth neon powders mixed into hand poured soft plastics worms back in the early 70's.Zank later perfected a commercial neon powder and start selling his hand pours. Color matters more to you than the fish so as long as you have confidence in it any color will work. I have caught fish on a hot pink jig with a GP head and chart trailer just to prove to someone else it would work. Allen 1 Quote

Fish'N Impossible Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I use a solid black skirt and a sapphire blue trailer all the time during the summer when flipping heavy vegetation or pads. The black gives that profile in the shadows, while the blue offers the contrast. This combo has landed me some big fish early more than once. 1 Quote

I do agree the sapphire blue is my favorite trailer but more times than not in clear water I like a green pumpkin blue flake trailer just seems to me they prefer it over the sapphire when the water is clear. I think it's because the sapphire has a little to much flash in clear water and just doesn't look natural enough. Quote

Actually just has good for know with smiw jigs the bloody shad seem to work. any kind of plastic im going with blue or purple. unless im fishing clear water which migh happen every ten years Quote
