Just Got A MH rod/reel combo spinning rod. Rods 6'7...I live in MA so we don't get huge bass and

im a little scared to get 30-40lb test( makes me feel like fish might be able to see such thick line?). I was thinking maybe 12-14 lb test

hoping fish wouldn't shy away from this thiner line. Also what brand/color would you suggest? I Mostly

fish trout where lower pound test is better. New to bass fishing so sorry for the some what newbie questions! lol

If you use 40# braid it's is the same equivalent to 12# monofilament.

If you would like Braid some suggestions are Power Pro and Suffix.

FluroCarbon: Seagar or P-Line.

Monofilament: Suffix or Berkley.

If you still feel the fish can see your braided line you can always use a leader. If you fish in clear water I suggest FluroCarbon.

I would go with 10lb PowerPro. Add an 8lb leader in clear water.

I use 20lb power pro in my spinning set ups. I live in MA too, I prefer braid because it's easier to pull your lures out of weeds and I think it's a lot more manageable than mono.

TW has a special. Buy two new YZ3DB baits and get a free spool of 12 lb. YZ hybrid. Another good option that has not been mentioned yet is Sunline super natural mono. It's a little thinner than competing monos and handles really well. The 10-20 lb. braid with a leader is a  good option as well. If youre really concerned about line visibility, Sufix fluoro is a nice line that handles good for a fluoro. Good luck

8 or 10 pound power pro with a good fluro leader (6ft). I like silver thread. Can change leader sizes to match conditions and baits being used. I usually carry fanny pack with a spool of 6,8,10 along with some shad raps and various other baits. Casting is amazing

If I got the 30lb power pro, I think its 150 yds per spool. Could I spool a bait-caster and my spinning reel with one spool? I was going to put 17 lb mono on my bait-caster and decided after reading to use braid on both. Thanks

I think you could get away with 75 yards on each reel as long as you are able to lay down the correct amount of backing so the spool gets filled correctly.  That is unless you are one of these guys capable of casing 100 yards and beyond.  :teeth:

Ha..I am lucky to cast my baitcaaster 10 yards..so that shouldnt be a problem.

I have a braid spinning spool and looked that its rated for 85 yds/30lbs. I am new to baitcasters and I guess I was wondering how much line typically goes on them.
