Super User A-Jay Posted December 30, 2013 Super User Posted December 30, 2013 No - My reels are serviced professionally when they need it. Between services I use this. A-Jay Ardent Reel care.jpgI also use ardent. Do they use the sauce or something else? Something else - not red. A-Jay Quote
Insanity Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Now that's something il give them. The local mom and pops fishing store finally got some in. Man quantum hot sauce is the stuff. Package said 20% more distance maybe it was 30 I don't recall but it's 30 on my main reel. Also took the touchy ness out if another reel. No more over runs on it. I've always heard how well it performed. Il agree. I mumbled under my breath when I seen the price. Humph I'd give $20 a bottle now. If I could get it in quarts I'd put it in my truck. Lol Quote

Lol I agree its pricey. I used it years back and swore by it. Ardent seems good too I like their bearing lube.Seems to wear off quicker. The oil tends to leave a dark residue I think.(graphite). The hot sauce you need to be careful with over doing it. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 31, 2013 Super User Posted December 31, 2013 The spinning reels are VERY popular with the saltwater guys, which says something regarding the build quality. ^ In my mind I don't think there is any question about this.^ After reading some of the posts I I decided to fish my cabo 40 yesterday, this is one fine reel. On a specification level it's not always easy to compare one brand against another, the cabo 40 230yd/10#, 30# max drag @ 13.9 oz I find to be a pretty good package for what I use it for. Not to say other brands I use don't offer a package suited for a different purpose that I like just as well, probably why I own different brands. Especially in spinning reels given a specific price range, I don't think the level of performance is too measurable from brand to brand, durability may be another issue. Quote
MrTexasRigs Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Thought I'd chime in. I have the previous generation Quantum Accurist (greenish/grey.) I feel like the thing is built like a tank. The only problem, which is one I couldn't figure out, is that the drag does not need to be adjusted. I have it the whole way down and it feels like I got 5lbs. of drag (this is why it is now my flipping reel.) It casts pretty good, but only has 4 magnetic brake settings (i use 1.) Even though it doesn't bomb lures, i feel the most comfortable with my Quantum when it comes down to heavy duty applications. It just feels so solid in my hand. I don't know how to describe just how durable the frame feels, imo. 1 Quote
Wbeadlescomb Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I've had a lot of different brand reels mostly in the 100-150 dollar range. When I used to sell fishing gear I used most everything in that price range. Had trouble out of a couple of citicas and daiwa Tierra's. Never fished pfleuger but had a few patriarchs that were missing parts from the factory. But I've never broken it had trouble out of a quantum. I've still got 6 quantum pt's I've been fishing for years but I'm not happy with the new quantum's I've fooled with. So take it for what you will but I'd love to have a truck load of the shiny blue and rainbow quantum reels Quote

I just thoroughly cleaned and re-lubed 9 of my Quantum TE and Energys. Smooth as silk. Quote

The reel stays smooth and easy casting, but I must take care of it. I also have bps extreme reels that work well, but I take care of them. I own shimanos too, but struggle to see spending the money on them when others work fine for me. Quote
CJV Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 My EXO sounds like a coffee grinder so it's just an ornament on my desk at work now stick with shimano if you want REAL durability. Quote
