So we are leaving for Disney World January 5th. The second day we are there we are doing the bass fishing expedition. My father in law and I are going in the am on a new Nitro Z 10 bass boat. They just got two of them this past Monday. It is a two hour trip. The lake is Bay Lake 7 seas. Air temps that week are in the mid 70's. Question I have is about equipment. We are flying there from NC and was wondering if I should use their gear, or take one of mine and one of my father in law's rod and reels? The guide told me that they have spinning and bait caster set ups with brand new skeet reese combos. He mentioned I can just bring a couple reels with us. Southwest will have to check in the rods if we take them. The case I found at Dicks is $50 and can hold two complete combos or several rods and I can thow the reels in one of my bags. We have free luggage through southwest but it is only one per person. This would be extra.

4 hours option is $420

We can add two hours when we are out there if we like.

You can hire a good guide on Toho in Orlando for a whole day 8-10 hours for $350. That price for 2 hours is a ripoff.

For the price of some PVC you could ship the rods down there through USPS or something if you really want your own rods. Otherwise I would just pack a few of your own reels in your bag.

This is what I did when I went to Falcon. I'm left crank and the guide didn't have any...only right. Also, I wanted a specific line so I spooled up and brought my reels and put em on his rods.

X2.  I keep rods at a brother-in-laws, but carry reels I will be using back and forth.  Rods are too expensive to ship for the 2 weeks I am normally there.  For 2 hours of fishing (or even 8 hrs) it would be ridiculous to ship rods.  Normally airlines don't charge for any luggage small enough to fit under the seats.

Joe, please don't take your own gear.

 

It would be nice to use it but the guide has specific rods, reels and baits for the area you will be fishing.

 

In addition, there are too many ways to have your gear lost or stolen when in the mail, at your motel room, in the car, at the dock, etc.

 

Keep everything home and ask your guide at least 1,000 questions on why he likes the brands, rod lengths, reels, line, baits, etc. and consider trying his same gear at your home in 2014.

When I visited Disney a couple years ago, I didn't have time to spend a half of full day fishing with a guide.  So I took a couple 2-pc rods and reels with me (I drove, but 2-pc rods would be easier to fly with than 1-pc).  Disney's town of Celebration, just off the resort, has a good-sized lake you can fish from shore.  I went and fished every morning for about an hour about sunup.  I got a couple in the 4-5 lb range.  Certainly no monster like you can catch with the guides, but it was able to scratch my fishing itch while I was there.  

 

Just something to think about.

Haha people this is Disney World. The happiest and costliest place on earth! I've been there with my family over 16 times and I'm only 19 years old! Haha my first thought when I read 240 was "that's it?". I agree it's outrageous but the fact of the matter is they could probably charge a lot more and still get away with it. Just my 2 cents. Also I would agree that they probably have some great gear and there's no need to bring your own.

Fair enough ~  However, once you provide that information it becomes part of the discussion.

 

I've never fish there but have seen video footage of some very respectable bass being caught .

The point about taking your own reels is YOU know what condition the line is in. Guide equipment from the best guides is sometimes suspect. The person using the equipment the day before might have had a fish rubbing the line under & on the boat bottom or in a snag whatever. Guides change out line when it becomes low on the spool or badly twisted, things they can see. They don't change it for things they can't see.

Dwight, that makes sense. I may bring the reels with fresh line and some lures. Also sole extra line. ;-)
