SpinnerbaitSlinger Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Does anyone have any experience with the Abu Garcia Orra SX? found a good price on the outgoing model. How do they perform? How do they compare as far as casting light lures? my next choice would be a silvermax. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted December 26, 2013 Super User Posted December 26, 2013 I bought 2 to replace my SilverMax's at the grand opening of a Bass Pro in Utica. I only got to try them out a handful of times and I love them. I generally don't fish baitcasters for anything less than a 1/4oz so I wouldn't be able to say how they perform with light lures. IMO light lures is more about the rod flex and tip than it is the reel. Quote

Revo S is more than I want to spend, main reason im even considering an orra is because the outgoing models are dirt cheap at the moment. thanks for the input though I bought 2 to replace my SilverMax's at the grand opening of a Bass Pro in Utica. I have found an orra for silvermax money so I may just go with the orra this time. thanks Quote

SpinnerbaitSlinger Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 its 6.4:1, same as the blackmax I have and fits the majority of my fishing needs Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted December 26, 2013 Super User Posted December 26, 2013 You should be good to go with the Orra. Enjoy! Quote
EvanT123 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I would take it over the silver max. Just for the aluminum frame. It's basically a previous generation revo s minus a bearing or two and carbon drag washers. The lightest bait I threw on it was a zoom super fluke and it cast that quite well. Quote
SpinnerbaitSlinger Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 how are the brakes on the orra? im used to my adjustable on the black max. Quote
EvanT123 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Certifigually if your talking about the previous model. Magnetic with the current one To access the breaks on the old model; unscrew the screw on top of the handle side and twist the non handle side up and down. Push the breaks tabs out for on and in for off. Quote
SpinnerbaitSlinger Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 how will the centrifugal compare to the magnetic in my black max? Quote
Chris186 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I just got one on clearance, im assuming you are getting it from the same place. I have one I got a couple years ago, never had any issues with it and at that price you cant go wrong. Quote
SpinnerbaitSlinger Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 yeah I went ahead and ordered it this morning. going to pair it to my vengeance rod. Quote
SpinnerbaitSlinger Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 Bass Pro Shops has them but I believe its only online. my local store didn't have the old ones in stock Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted December 27, 2013 Super User Posted December 27, 2013 how will the centrifugal compare to the magnetic in my black max? The centri brakes will control the beginning part of your cast better once you dial it in. That's where many people get in trouble with a B/C. Start with 2-3 pins out. Adjust your spool tension based on the weight of your lure, and you should be fine. Quote
SpinnerbaitSlinger Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 I will have to check that video out. Ive used my black max for over a year now so it shouldn't be too bad to get used to Quote
