N8Dawg34 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Hey guys I just received this rod for a Christmas Present from the Dicks sale. Right out of the box the reel seat is misaligned by 1/8". I'm 99% sure this is a defect but want to make sure this isn't something to make the rod more ergonomic since I have never seen the to in person prior. Thank you for your help! Quote
Super User webertime Posted December 26, 2013 Super User Posted December 26, 2013 Send it back, that's not ergonomic, that's poor QC. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted December 26, 2013 Super User Posted December 26, 2013 There is a reason these rods were liquidated... I am sure if you contact them and submit a picture, they will replace it. Dicks is pretty good about replacing broken/defective items as well. Might want to start there before you hit up W&M. If it were me, I'd get my credit back and apply it to something a little better... Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 The reel seat should be mounted perfectly centered on the blank. Poor reaming of arbors or poorly built arbors puts them off center. Return the rod for replacement. Quote
Solution N8Dawg34 Posted December 26, 2013 Author Solution Posted December 26, 2013 That's what I had figured I just wasn't totally sure since I had never seen them in person. Thank you all for the help! Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted December 26, 2013 Super User Posted December 26, 2013 If they don't do nothing, don't despair. It is still a good catfish rod. A 1/8 offset isn't that big a deal. Everyone needs several catfish/bottom fishing/tightline rigs, just so that they aren't tempted to tear up any of their better bass fishing rigs. Quote
down4ttown Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Take it back and get something else! Trust me! I had two from Dicks when they were $25 each. Both have since snapped on casts. They are junk and they know it. Hence selling them for $25 each. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I have two of the 7' Heavy rods, they work great for reaction baits, not sure how the heavy rating gets on these rods as they feel like a medium power rod, that said they cast well and are pretty durable, not sure about the medium powered rods I would think they would have durability issues... N8Dawg34 Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 I noticed the rod seemed pretty whippy to be a mh. Ended up returning it, and getting a veritas with some gift cards I got. Quote
