bluenitrouscoupe Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I'm just now getting into fishing offshore and going to devote most of my fishing time learning how to fish offshore.(hope its not time wasted) I'm in the market of buying 2 deep cranking combos. The reels I was thinking about ordering were 2 Lews BB1 pro's in 5.1/1 gear ratio and also 2 Falcon lowrider's in the xd cranker model. Also what line do yall use throwing a 6xd compared to a 10xd? Super User Jrob78 Posted December 26, 2013 Super User Posted December 26, 2013 I like 12lb fluoro for deep cranking. I don't have any experience with the 10xd but I don't think I would throw it on a regular deep crankbait rod. 1 Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted December 27, 2013 Super User Posted December 27, 2013 The time you spend learning to identify and fish off shore structure will def. not be wasted. Like others I use 12lb FC, Tatsu to be exact for fishing deeper crankbaits. Most company's produce a good deep crankbait reel in a lower IPT to help with the drag these baits create. A longer rod with a Moderate or Moderate Fast Action will be well suited to this type of fishing. Quote
bluenitrouscoupe Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 I have not used a 10xd either, but the thing weighs 1-1/4 oz so that is a whole half ounce above the lure rating on the falcon low rider cranking model. I use 12 fluoro on 6xd's as well. I have heard that most people are throwing the 10xd on a little bit stronger line.. The cranking model I was talking about is the XD cranker its rated for 3/4-2oz. However they do have one called "big cranker" and its rated for 1/4oz-3/4. Quote
