Harrybass Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 What should I pair my new revo with? It's a stx in 7:1 I was thinking maybe a flipping stick but idk what techniques most valuable.. Quote
Arv Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Depends on what you like to fish, what other rods you have, what type of cover you're fishing, what depth you fish at, where you are fishing from (bank, boat, kayak, etc.). Also, what is your price range? The most versatile rod will probably be 6'6 to 7' MH/F, but its tough to say what is most valuable without any other info. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 25, 2013 Super User Posted December 25, 2013 I just put the gen3 7:1 STX I got on my brand new Veritas 7' MH that my wife and kids gave me for christmas, seems like they were made for each other LOL. Quote
Yungun234120 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I'm actually going to bps tomorrow to one up the same reel and was kind of curious also. Excited to purchase my first baitcast set-up Quote

X2. This is probably my favorite set up. Only advice if you get the veritas is to avoid micro guides. I have had issues with them but regular guides are great. Quote

It feels like both rod and reel were made for each other. I have the 7ft MH, rod. Quote
down4ttown Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I have my STX paired with a Villain. I got them when they were on sale at Dicks for 99. Got my STX for $65. Pretty nice combo for $164 total. I use it for jigs and t-rigs. Quote

down4ttown Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 You got a STX for $65!! What generation STX was that? Gen 3 STX 7.1 and the 6 something gear ratio both for $65 each. A rep that ran the tourney circuit had to expo demo's. No Boxes but paperwork and the reels. I have used them for a year, and they work great. I also got a Gen3 Revo Winch for that price. Best Deal I have ever gotten. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Great deal. Gen 1 STX go for that kind of money and more. AS for rod choice, think about what technique and baits you want to throw and set a budget. Bring the reel along and mount it onto several rods that fit the bill and choose the one that feels best in your hands. Quote
