Hey Y'all! What's Biting In South Florida?

Hey there everyone! I'm Rick,  so about 3 weeks ago a buddy of mine told me, hey lets do some fishing while we are up here in Jupiter for work. I said, sure why not? Got to admit, I felt foolish at first, I hadn't been fishing for almost 10 years. Well turns out I'm hooked! Pun intended. So my buddy takes me out there to do some fishing and a catch a couple small snapper. Then we go out to the pier and try again, but end up with a couple small blue runners. Nothing worth keeping. We head to Tampa for work and try our luck in the gulf. I end up with a couple more small fish but standing there feeling the bites got me all pumped up. Saturday we hit up Jupiter inlet and I caught me a nice 15" Red, of course he was a nice size but had to be thrown back in because of size restrictions. We then hit up a national park north of jupiter where I almost got me a nice big fat snook. Lost the sucker right near the boat.

Now I figured I would go do some channel and lake fishing in my area since my friend lives about an hour and 30 min from me. I'm not to far from Snapper Creek and Tropical Park. Tried my luck out there in Snapper Creek and ended up with 0 bites early in the morning. Headed over to Tropical Park and caught 3 Bass with a small spinner, but I don't think they have very many big fish in that lake. All 3 where about 7 and 8 inches in length and skinny.

 

I'm on here to try and learn as much as possible, get some good advice and hopefully make fishing the hobby I've been looking for! If anyone has recommendations for places to fish in the heart of Miami or out in the Florida Everglades I would love to hear them. It would have to be shore fishing too, I don't own a boat.

BTW, FWC did electroshocking studies in tropical park and documented DD bass.

BassinLou, thanks for the info! Guess I'll be hittin' Tropical Park up again soon to see what I can pull out of there since it's so close to home. 

 

Sam I sure do have it made here in South Florida. Though we get more UM and FIU coeds than FSU ones. But you're right, just about everything bites down here, and year round!

Right now in south Florida the bite is good and will become insane as the water drops.  Bass, peacock, oscars, and all other exotics.  100 to 200 fish days will be common place.  Great fishing in the tropics.
