Hungryland Canals In Jupiter?

I am sitting here killing time in the office, using Google Earth to scout out some places. I work in West Jupiter and live in PSL. I have stopped by the canals in the Hungryland and made some attempts at catching fish but nothing more than a couple of tiny fish. I am sure the spots I fished are the most heavily fished ones because they are so easy to get to. I didn't venture very far last time but I see there are a couple of miles worth of canals. I saw what I am guessing was a snakehead the last time but I couldn't get close enough to see it.

 

Has anyone fished any of these canals and caught anything decent? I am trying to find some spots I can hit on the way home from work without too much hassle. I see a couple of possibilities like the square pond near the old indiantown rd trail. Just wondering if anyone has tried these places.

On the northwest side, just inside of Gate 2 there is a large pond with a canal. I keep meaning to try it out, will one of these days when work pemits. It just looks fishy. I go out there hunting, but after living in Jupiter since 1986, I have never wet a line out there.............

Funny, you've got about a year on year on me in Jupiter. I have lived elsewhere but I consider Jupiter my hometown. 

 

I managed to catch a couple of tiny bass there in the few attempts I made. I considered dropping my canoe in so I could fish the other sides. I can imagine the sides accessible by foot are fished regularly. You can only get to about 1/4 of it on foot. The rest is swamp or gator country. (5' tall reeds and grass)

 

I also nearly had a heart attack there. 

 

Pro tip: Just because you can no longer see the huge gator doesn't mean he's gone. Turns out they do not like having a fly popper dragged across their forehead. When that guy jumped he was 6' away in the lily pads and I nearly peed myself. That ended my day.

I stopped by on the way home today. With about 10 minutes of sunlight left I figured I'd get a couple of casts in. I threw a watermelon/red senko into that pond behind gate 2 a few times and managed to land a little one. Plenty of activity and hits but I messed up a couple of times. (need better hooks or some patience) I had a nice one on, not a monster, but it got free while I was wrapped in the lily pads. 

 

I think I'm going to bring my canoe out there, just don't want to meet any gators the hard way. They grow them pretty big out that way.

I hope the snakes have not ventured that far north yet. As of what I currently know, they have made it as far north as west Boca. Please keep us updated if you do catch one up their.

I've heard tales of snakeheads in Boynton, so far I think they are just stories.
