Wayne that Hinkle looks awesome, I have been kicking around the idea of trying to get one, I love my deps and hiroshimas though. I always think about hitting you up before my trips to PA when I make them and toss some swimbaits, I always end up targeting other fish species up there though. Oh and speaking of new additions this one came today

Dude, bring the swimbaits if you can.

Oh, I got a package today too. ;)  Got the "jacked up" and the "dark trout" along with some extras Matt threw in. Class act and top notch customer service.

This swimbait realm of bass fishing is crazy. All the lures look very similar to me but lots of people can pick them apart in a second. All crazy baits!

Now te real question is: I live in Wisconsin with muskies everywhere, I love fishing for them, I have tons of F/c leaders from 80-160# and tons of steel leaders around 174#. Should I fish them with a leader or not?? I really wanna the this swimbait stuff

If I were in Wisconsin, I would fish with a leader. You have so much greater chance of hooking up with a big toother that you almost have to.

I occasionally fish with a leader when I'm specifically targeting musky but if it kills the action, it gets taken off. No point in protecting a bait from a bite off if you can't get bit on it. ;)

I have tippy toed into the bigger (expensive) swimbaits in the past year and fish primarily in Wisconsin.  I'm throwing all my stuff on leaders for the most part, especially anything in the $65+ range.  Don't gamble unless money is of no object to you.  You should be more worried about pike than musky as they are far more abundant and more vicious. I've lost a number of softbody swimbaits (like Hudds) to dinky pike (18"-22").  I can live with that, but I'd be furious if some of my more expensive stuff was taken.  My inventory is peanuts compared to some of these guys.

If you want to try a tieable leader material, look at Cortland Toothy Critter leader material.  Otherwise a good fluoro or titanium will keep your baits protected. Just make sure with jerk or glide style baits you're not using pre-made leaders with swivels.

I agree with Speed. There are just some baits that won't get the same action so it's best to just suck it up and throw it as intended.  We fish risky waters up here so keep that in mind.

Try a light weight titanium leader made by Finn-Tastic. You can change out the front snap with the snap of your choice if you don't like the one it comes with. The single strand is very minimal in size & diameter.

We can hit Piney Run in the spring down here in MD where there are a lot of 3-4' stripers if you want? I have no idea how to specifically target them but I lost something big on a Mattlures perch swimbait there two years ago. Something hit that bait and straightened both my arms out when I wasn't paying attention. Besides the stripers you can see 6+lb bass swimming around the shallows in the spring.

Regarding leaders here is a pretty good take from swimbaiters from Minnesota.

Also, it ties in to the swimshot technique   ....

I have not tried these approaches but it is something that I'm considering for 2014.
