BuckMaxx Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I have began my winter projects... Getting the boat ready for ice off 2014. My boat is almost done completely. I am installing a dual blinker switch for my jack plate and trim on the steering wheel. Installing a recesses trolling motor pan in the bow. I am going to install a 1198 on the front and a 998 on the helm with ram mounts. When they come on sale in the spring. Last but not least a stereo to play me some Jawga boys music while cruising down the lake. In betweenst all that we have begun organizing tackle and splitting up plastic baits. What are you guys planning on or working on thri the off season? Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted December 22, 2013 Super User Posted December 22, 2013 Reorganize my tackle (again) and learn everything about the jig. That includes pouring and skirting them. That should keep me busy for a while. Just waiting on Santa to bring me a few things. Quote
Naplock Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I'm gonna put some micro-guides on my pink Zebco casting Rod, and some hawt aftermarket bearings on my new Zebco 33. Wonder if I should spool it up with braid or Flouro? 2 Quote
BuckMaxx Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 Felix I got a couple molds off ebay myself and gathered up a buncha wheel weights..One of the guys at work is a bullet pourer so he is going to come by and show me how to clean them up and pour them. I have been putting an order together thru Janns for skirt stuff. May I ask whats on your Christmas list I should be looking for? Quote

I have been putting an order together thru Janns for skirt stuff. May I ask whats on your Christmas list I should be looking for? I already have the mold, some hooks and have poured a couple of jigs. My list includes 1 - Tons of skirts from Fishingskirts.com 2 - An interesting skirt maker tool from TW 3 - Some more hooks. 4 - New cast iron ladle (smaller than the one I have) Sidebar note ... learning how to flux lead seems key to a quality pour. That and a very hot lead and mold. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 22, 2013 Super User Posted December 22, 2013 I'm gonna put some micro-guides on my pink Zebco casting Rod, and some hawt aftermarket bearings on my new Zebco 33. Wonder if I should spool it up with braid or Flouro? I'd recommend 80 lb. Dacron line. No sense taking any chances. A-Jay Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 22, 2013 Super User Posted December 22, 2013 My offseason checklist: Sell off stuff I don't want/use..........................done Restock my favorites..................never ending Clean/lube reels.................a couple done, a bunch more to go. New bunk boards for the trails................carpet/boards bought, need to cut boards to length and stable carbet on yet. New water pump impeller for outboard.............already have an appt. for early March with the local marina New prop..................I'll order it after the holidays shallow water anchor........... ????? I want one, badly, but I am sooooo not thrilled with the cost. I talk myself into and out of it on a daily basis. Quote
BuckMaxx Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 I too have been struggling with the cost of a shallow water anchor. I am researching them all and struggle with the fact do I really need one. I too would like to upgrade nmy trolling motor to a 24v 80 lb. at some point. I would use that more than a SWA. Quote
wnybassman Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 2 - An interesting skirt maker tool from TW If it is this one you will love it. Although you should try all the other methods for many many years to get the full affect of how good this one is. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 replace older rods with newer rods...(mostly done... never satisfied though) upgrade reels for frogs and jigs...(done) make a whole bunch of new jigs for next season... (70 done 30 to go... i thought 100 is a good number) take inventory of plastics, get rid of stuff that doesn't work, buy more of what does... put structure scan on the boat...(maybe ) clean, oil and grease all reels, replace stock bearing on all flippin reels with ceramic abec7's.(4 down 2 to go) figure out tournament schedule for next season... tnbassfisher Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 In the next week or so I'll strip line off of all my reals, clean and oil. I'll also restock on lures, and probably pick up a few I've been wanting to try. I fish from a kayak, so I don't have as many "fishing things" to do since I don't have to winterize/make repairs to a boat. Quote
boostr Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I don't have much to maintain or stock... yet. Quote
BuckMaxx Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 I had to watch a youtube video of that machine but that thing is slick! I am ordering mine today!! Thanks for posting that. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 24, 2013 Super User Posted December 24, 2013 I have no downtime here, equipment is fine unless I get a whim to buy something. Only thing changes are the species I target, this winter my project is to catch peacocks. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted December 24, 2013 Super User Posted December 24, 2013 Well plan is to fish at least one or two days a week to keep motor running well and reels from freezing up. May have to vacume boat once in awhile or change line from over use. Always looking, changing, and organizing boat and tackle. Tight Lines Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 24, 2013 Super User Posted December 24, 2013 I just finished one. Needed a new travel rod case. Done. A-Jay Quote

If you fish shallow water, yes you need one. I find it an invaluable tool, especially during the spring when the fish are up shallow. Quote
doyle8218 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 No change for me... It's fishing season year round in Miami. 82 degrees today, life is good! 1 Quote

xxxblungblung Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Can we ban all FL people during the winter months? They are depressing. Quote
DRH2O Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I'm pulling the anchor trolly off the yak and rigging it up with a dual anchor system. I'm hoping to make a couple of DIY drift socks and I'm most definately going to rig up a dash mount and internally shoot-through-the-hull mount the transducer for the new depth finder that I bought SANTA got me...
