Infinity Bass Rods

I am wondering would the Infinity Bass 7'2' - 1 piece - 1/4-3/4 lure wt. - 10-20 line wt. - fast action - 3 power' work with the new Abu Garcia 4600C4 2014 model baitcaster?

This is the most bizarre question I've ever seen asked here.  If the rod is a casting rod it will work with a casting reel.

I had to look this rod up as I've never considered a Lamiglas rod since the Excel is the only rod in my price range.  That is a lot of rod (meaning expensive) for a lowly 4600C4.  However, I would never fault your choice.  It is a very nice looking reel, and I happen to like all the Abu round reels I own.  Abu's round reels have an excellent reputation for performance for the money, their ability to be upgraded, and their reliability.  I fear many have been won over to low profile reels, and admit to a love affair with them myself.  That doesn't take away from a round reel's usefulness.  There are still a few enarmored with the older Abu round reels.

 

The reel's capacity makes it a fine match for the rod.  The rod should make an excellent all-around rod.  You probably will be passing the reel down to one of your offsprings.

 

Have you purchased either yet?

I mean to ask was the ML rod was a good all around choice for bass fishing. I tried a low profile reel but I did not like it so I took it back to the store.

1/4 oz-3/4 oz is pushing the limits of a ML rod in to a M power rod. I'm sure it will work fine if you keep the lures in the weight ranges and stay out of thick cover.

I wouldn't consider a ML baitcast rod an all-around bass rod.  Most baitcast rods listed for 1/4-3/4 oz. are going to be MH models.  Top end on my Medium power baitcast rods ranges from 1/2 oz. to 5/8 oz. with most being 1/2 oz.  Spinning rods seem to have a wider range.  These figures aren't written in stone.  They do however conform to the 25 or so rods I have from various manufacturers with the exception of the ML Crankin Stick I just got whose rated range is 1/16-1/2 oz.  Not all ML rods will handle 1/2 oz. with 3/8 oz. being a more popular top weight.  I don't know yet if the Crankin Stick will in fact handle a 1/2 oz. weight.  It wasn't purchased for that.  I prefer using a MH rod for that weight.

 

Most rods perform best with weights in the middle of their listed range.  I wouldn't consider any rod with a top weight of 1/2 oz. as an all-around rod because I fish weights above that.  If your fishing consists of 1/8 oz. to 3/8 oz., then a ML could be your "all-around" rod....provided you aren't fishing in much cover.  Vast majority of my Medium casting rods carry 8# mono while the few ML rods I have carry 6# mono.  I don't use these rods when I plan on throwing into heavy cover.  I use a MH or H for that, and prefer braid to be spooled although I have used 12# mono on occasion.

Are you saying you prefer to use round reels?  Or are you just getting into using baitcast reels?  What didn't you like about the low profile?  My round reels are the 1600 size Abu reels.  These I can palm.  Don't know about a 4600 size yet as I have never tried one.  I will say that disliking low profile reels puts you in a minority.  Especially around here.

That rod is probably a very good all purpose rod, it isn't a ML though.  Lamiglas rates their rods a little differently than other companies.  That rod is a 723, which is a 3 power and usually rated medium by Lamiglas.  At any rate, it should make a decent all purpose bass rod.  As far as  the reel, get one that you feel most comfortable with.  The 4600 seems a little big to me but it should work.

I pefer round reels, I see Lamiglas rate there rods differently. Next years Abu Garcia rounds are a little smaller.

Lamiglas' ratings are pretty off.  A 4 power "fast" Lamiglas is akin to a Medium Moderate/Fast in say a Shimano or Daiwa.  If you wanted the Infinity, I'd go with a 5 power, which is basically the same as a St. Croix MH.
