Super User rippin-lips Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 So thanks to Rockchalks post I was bored at my local shop today and figured I'd try to make a bluegill style swim jig. He needed some heads poured so I did it for him and he always lets me make a few of whatever I pour for my time. I think it came out pretty decent for my first attempt. Quote
Smokinal Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 You're gonna be PUMPED when a bass jumps all over that thing...that you made! Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 21, 2013 Author Super User Posted December 21, 2013 I've caught some fish on spinnerbaits I've made there and even a buzzbait. It is a good feeling. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted December 21, 2013 Super User Posted December 21, 2013 Nice job. I started doing this to keep me busy in the cold. I even split a mold with a friend and started trying to pour. Very excited about making jigs from scratch. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted December 21, 2013 Super User Posted December 21, 2013 Looks good. Whats the weight of the jig? Looks small, but might be the way I'm looking at it. Quote

You spawned the idea. That one is 3/8 and I also made a 1/4 and two in 1/2. Here's one of the 1/2 I made. Same exact skirt. Next time I'm there I'm going to spend some time digging through all the boxes of skirt rubber he has and try to find more of a powder blue. I also found an orange later that looks like the one you used. It's not as bright and has some brown/green tones to it. 3 Quote
cadman Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I sure do like the one in your hand. That is a sharp looking jig. 1 Quote

It's the same as above but for some reason that pic doesn't show the green very well. I'm happy with my first attempt. I'm sure I'll catch some fish on it. I think next time I'll only use 3 strands of blue and orange and it'll be a lighter blue. I forgot the skirt doubles over so there's more of those colors then I had envisioned. I pulled some strands out and I think it looks better. I also wanna add a different type of green to it. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted December 21, 2013 Super User Posted December 21, 2013 Very nice!!!!! You are going to really like fishing a swim jig if you haven't done it, around my waters the bass haven't got bombed with that presentation and it is actually doing better than my favorite lure, the spinnerbait. I also like the ripple cut skirt material you added, I use it and it gives off a different look and effect in the water, on bottom probing jigs the ripple skirts have the illusion of movement even when sitting still, it looks awesome and I'm going to have to try it now on a swim jig, thanks for the idea!!!!! I'd buy a couple from ya if you wanna get into it. Quote

You know, honestly if you buy the head in your desired weight, style and hook from Seibert Outdoors and a pretied skirt with a collar, you can make one really cheap. If you can thread a plastic on a jig hook, you can thread a skirt and collar on one. Quote

Honestly rockchalk is right. I thank you for considering them nice enough to purchase though. What I'd have to charge you to cover his materials and shipping them it'd be cheaper to just buy them from someone who mass produces heads and skirts. Seibert makes a great jig so there's no need to worry. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 That second jig is really cool! Quote
