I Love My Job

Ain't seen a thread like this in a while. So here goes. Who else here loves what they do for a living?

Me. I love being an industrial electrician. The people are interesting. The work is fun. The pay is good. I get to travel if I so choose. I can stay close to home if I chooses. I wouldn't change my career path for anything.

Love mine as well. I manage a very busy tire/auto center. I have been in retail my whole 26 working years and love helping people.

I haven't found the job I love yet, just one that pays the bills.

I love mine! I teach students ages 11 - 18 and I get the opportunity each and every day to be a positive male role model in their life. That may not sound like much, but most of these students need some sort of positive role model in their life. I get to coach the sports I love and not one day is ever the same. I also get a little time off in the summer to fish. I wouldn't trade my job for anything.

Love? Eh not sure if I will ever love work, but I do enjoy it while I am here, and I dont have to drag myself outta bed to get here. Great people to work with, I think it takes a special breed to work aircraft maintenance so all of us have something in common while at work....

When I was active and deployed yeah I loved my job then and everything well most everything seemed right. Everyhing not in the army I don't seem to enjoy and hate with a passion pretty much. I've been looking into going active full time but its actually become harder for prior service.

I have an awesome job also. Construction Manager building and upgrading Cellular Networks. I make my own schedule for the most part, work from home most days. This rifle season has been great, I take my laptop in the treestand with me and work off my air card lol. Rental vehicle whenever needed, cell phone/internet card paid for it has a ton of perks.

Its tough at times; there are a few late nights here and there, I catch things that roll downhill from our client/GC's that arent my fault but are my responsibilty, The computer work can get excessive. I could make more money if I were to take a PM posistion, but I'd be confined to an office everyday and lose a lot of my freedom. My kids aren't in school yet and I see them a lot. Once they start school and my wife goes back to teaching, I'm going to pursue a more high end gig that will facilitate paying off our starter home and building on some land. For the time being, I'm really happy with the way things are.

My job is great.  I work for the state as a casino regulator making sure the slot machines are set up properly and are paying back what they are supposed to so people aren't being cheated.  Hours are great, weekends and all state and federal holidays off.  Much better than being on the other side working for a casino, which I did for 15 years previous to this.

I have no complaints being a construction super. My career started in the field for a few years and then I went in the office as an estimator for 20 yrs. The opportunity came a couple of years ago to go back to the field and couldn't be happier.

 

Some days I'm managing subcontractors and other days I have tools in my hands. My day starts @ 6:00 am and I'm on the road by 2:30pm for the most part. Construction being construction, your days can be long at times, but I knew that when I signed up for the position and don't mind it at all.

 

I've met a lot of nice folks, both in the trades as well as clients along the way which has been a great experience. The only down fall is that my time on the water has been reduced, but I fish a lot anyway!

I do what I always have wanted to do, and other than a few frustrating days a year, I have no complaints. I have been at  my current job for 20 years, so I get a lot of freedom to do what I want, get a lot of the easy jobs with the newest and best equipment, and come and go as I pretty much please............BUT I don't abuse it. I am there when I am needed, I always volunteer to come in early/late or on weekends, and I don't act like I am un-replaceable..........thats a sure fire way for an older, well paid, slow moving, fat guy like myself to get replaced with a younger cheaper option.

clayton86, you've certainly have had a rough 2013 and I can understand point of view, but I believe you will have better luck in 2014. I have my fingers crossed for you. Good luck my friend.

Go get your CDL class A with tank endorsment, and I know you can turn a wrench. Lots of fun jobs down this way for "someone" with those qualifications. We are only 1/2 hour south of you.

I had a similar situation a few years back. The pay was good for what we did. My coworkers were great. The hours were rotten, but I have always worked strange hours. The boss was nice, but was ignorant as far as safety and most non-sign or anything past basic lighting work. My coworkers are the only reason I stayed as long as I did. It completely destroyed my finances, but I enjoyed the people a lot. I still keep up with most all of them too. Including my old boss. Im tooting my horn now. I was one of the top two electricians that worked there. I made more money for the company than any other employee, and worked any job needed. Including the crappy middle of the night in the pooring freezing rain jobs.
