Super User tomustang Posted December 19, 2013 Super User Posted December 19, 2013 Gilligan Dynasty? 5
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 19, 2013 Super User Posted December 19, 2013 I sense it will be a bigger loss for A&E than the gang from duck dynasty who have a huge following and were already successful and being paid very little from the network anyhow. $200,000 per episode is not very little pay. Here is the actual article that started it all... http://www.gq.com/entertainment/television/201401/duck-dynasty-phil-robertson?currentPage=1
Super User flyfisher Posted December 19, 2013 Super User Posted December 19, 2013 there is no such thing as bad publicity.....
ClackerBuzz Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I may not agree with what someone says but I stand behind their right to say it. this is how i felt until i learned how far ahead many european countries are on this. many have laws prohibiting hate speech. simply put b/c it only has one purpose..to do harm. i think within our lifetime many of us will see hate speech no longer protected. I don't know what I'll do when that day comes...probably go fishing 2
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted December 19, 2013 Super User Posted December 19, 2013 I honestly think the family will bail on the show if they don't bring Phil back. Blood runs thicker than water. As has been stated before, if nothing else they will jump to a different network. Assuming they are still enjoying making the show. If the media would actually report things the way they are supposed too, and stop trying to drum up ratings and stir people up by twisting peoples words. This country would probably be better off.

For what the show draws it seems like a bargain for A&E.
Super User Catt Posted December 19, 2013 Super User Posted December 19, 2013 I personally back Phil 100% 5
Brayberry Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I love Duck Dynasty, but I won't watch it without Phil. Willie is just out for fame and just seems fake, Phil at least seems like a real person, and I'd bet he acts the same in real life as on the show. People watch Duck Dynasty to see the stupid things they do and say, and I personally don't think anything he said is anything more then his personal opinion. I'm not offended by anything he says or done. It's tv, nothing more
Ima Bass Ninja Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I see duck call sales going through the roof. Remember what happened when chic fil a CEO Dan Cathy said he supported traditional marriage? 1
KritterGitter Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I wouldnt mind just having a DD spinoff chronicling Phil, Si, Goodard and Jaces everyday life....Those guys make the show... The worldy wisdom from Si is second to none LOL 1
Super User Marty Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 However, the 1st Amendment does not guarantee you keep your job after making public comment. It merely protects your right to free speech within certain bounds, without government retribution. A&E can do whatever it wants to ensure ratings....which is what I think this is all about. John, I agree heartily. What a lot of people seem to not acknowledge is that free speech has consequences. You have the right to post on Facebook, Twitter, etc., for example, that your employer treats people miserably and the employer has the right to discipline you. Many of you will remember when "Jimmy the Greek" was on CBS's NFL studio show. He made a remark involving race (which I think was not offensive) and CBS canned him. He had the right to say it and he suffered the consequences. Always engage your brain before your mouth. 3
Super User tomustang Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 I see duck call sales going through the roof Especially in the bible belt
Super User retiredbosn Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 I like or when he talks about his football days. He related once that his life at that time was about the ducks and the "blonde bomber" (Bradshaw) was about the $$ bucks. So he quit football to concentrate on hunting.
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 20, 2013 Global Moderator Posted December 20, 2013 I don't know about that, the *** and lesbian community is huge in hollywood. These days you need to please that crowd to not have a uproar. Phil will probably make an apology statement and move it along. Not a chance. 2
Super User clayton86 Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 I guess the family is all backing Phil and said no Phil no show and are in talks with A&E. I personally love the show I watch it with my boys they love it they got DD posters in their room and bed sheets and pillows. I told my oldest boy the show might be a goner because Phil won't be on anymore he said " as long as Si is on I'm watching it dad"
Super User Redlinerobert Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 Kudos to the family for backing Phil. If A&E can't handle his personal views, another network surely will.
craww Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 This reaks of a publicity stunt by AE, and if it is it'll work perfectly. The Robertsons seem like good folks that have actual morals and values. Regardless of your views Phil made an articulate, explanation of HIS beliefs that were respectful to others. Most of the time the people who make the stink about these things deep down are not TRUELY hurt in anyway. Its a smug, elitest, "I'm better than you by calling out what part of society/the media calls injustices" mentality. The show itself, not for me. Way to contrived and scripted. 2
BassnChris Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 As I understood it........they were already 'rich' and had a large following of their outdoor show? I know DD allowed them to reach more people...........I am kind of tired of the knee jerk type reactions to what people say. As long as they are not being hateful or threatening and speak their mind respectfully, everyone else should just mind their own beeswax. Do you think everyone (BassPro, Walmart, ect) will pull DD merchandise? I seriously doubt it. Everyone has the right to speak their mind as referenced above.........that is a freedom in this country and is part of the whole package our men and women have fought, died and continue to fight for!
Super User rockchalk06 Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 Not a chance. Exactly! Remember last year, A&E tried to make Phil stop talking about the lord and take the guns out of the show. Phil basically said take the lord and firearms, take your show and shove it. A&E backed off. I'm willing to bet, they have butted heads against his tradional ways a few times and this is their way to hang it on his head. Problem is, the old man wont budge an inch. I don't blame him at all. That said, sometimes, keeping you mouth closed, makes for a better day.
Super User retiredbosn Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 I just read that next years season is already in the can, ie filmed, edited, etc. I guess now A&E will have to go back and remove Phil, but my money is on the family stopping the show from airing without Phil. Oh and BTW there is an apology circulating which is a partial quote, he isn't going to do a full blown apology for his beliefs. no way
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 Me too. However, the 1st Amendment does not guarantee you keep your job after making public comment. It merely protects your right to free speech within certain bounds, without government retribution. A&E can do whatever it wants to ensure ratings....which is what I think this is all about. We need to be VERY careful here. I'm leaving this open, but I doubt we can keep things non religious or political. I personally see it as a ratings game. The #1 show is slipping, so bring out the controversy. Works EVERY time. I agree! This is not a 1 st amendment issue, A&E is not democracy nor is Bass Resource and each can institute their own policies. A & E is attempting to cater to their overall viewership, given what I believe is that viewership I think the decision was the right one, and it is all about ratings. This is really no different than a radio station not wanting to air or terminate a host that may have opposing views to that of the station or the majority of it's listening base, again it's ratings and sponsors. Any on line forum has the right to edit or delete any post as they see fit, A&E has the identical right. If one does not like the policy of a forum, they go elsewhere and by the same token if unhappy with A & E then watch another network. Really makes no difference to me what happens, I watched the show once and that was enough for me. 3
Super User Catt Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 The Robertson family told A&E no Phil no show!
0119 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 A & E has always been more about providing viewers a inside look at the emotional struggles of horders and close up shots of plastified faces and chests of old Miami barbie dolls anyway. They probably wont be at any loss since the majority of viewers were those type of viewers, not folks that felt an interest or kinship to the truer side of the Robertson family. Phil's Pastor son recently left his pulpit to take on a bigger role on the show. Hopefully the Outdoor or Sportsman Channel will pick them back up and start off where "The Duckmen of Louisiana" show left off.
JeziHogg Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 So people are ticked of at A&E for suspending Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty. He voiced his opinion about gay people and how he thought it was a sin. You think it would be ok for someone to voice they're opinions about a certain race? 1
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted December 20, 2013 Super User Posted December 20, 2013 So people are ticked of at A&E for suspending Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty. He voiced his opinion about *** people and how he thought it was a sin. You think it would be ok for someone to voice they're opinions about a certain race? Of course someone can voice their opinion about a certain race, a certain politician, a certain teacher, a certain group or a certain individual, a certain brand of vehicle, etc. We all do it, every day. 1
