Have you seen the article, on the news, that says Phil Robertson was kicked off the show because of his beliefs?

I know we can not post anything religious or political, but, what happened to him really sucks.

A&E placed him on "indefinite hiatus".   What does that mean?

I'm guessing it means that the powers that be at A&E have a finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing before putting him back on the show, or actually firing him.

I may not agree with what someone says but I stand behind their right to say it.

I read an article earlier this year and he said that he wanted less camera time. Well he got his wish. People need to realize that you have the right to say whatever you want but that does not mean that there are not consequences.

I would be real surprised if this turned out to be true. His entire family share his beliefs and the oldest son is the Pastor of the church they attend. I know he was involved in a political race there. If the report is true I would be willing to bet there will be no more "Duck Dynasty", no other family member would participate without him.

Well, it is true.  After reading the article like most things his words are being slanted and inflamed.  Anyway, as a parent of children who choose a to live that lifestyle I find nothing he says offensive, but that's just me. Unless this ban is lifted, we the viewers can kiss Duck Dynasty goodbye, the family will stand behind Phil.  Of course the contract they are binded to will come into play as well, but hang on this is just the beginning.  just my .02 cents

Me too.  However, the 1st Amendment does not guarantee you keep your job after making public comment.  It merely protects your right to free speech within certain bounds, without government retribution.  A&E can do whatever it wants to ensure ratings....which is what I think this is all about.

We need to be VERY careful here.  I'm leaving this open, but I doubt we can keep things non religious or political.

I personally see it as a ratings game.  The #1 show is slipping, so bring out the controversy.  Works EVERY time.

Did you guys know about his personal history as an athlete. Interesting read. College and football[edit]

Quarterback Phil Robertson throws against Southeastern Louisiana University's Lions.

As an athlete in high school, Robertson was all-state in football, baseball, and track, which afforded him the opportunity to attend Louisiana Tech University in Ruston on a football scholarship in the late 1960s.[3] There he played first-string quarterback for the Bulldogs, ahead of Pro Football Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw,[4][5] the first overall pick in the 1970 NFL Draft. When he arrived at Tech in 1966, Bradshaw caused a media frenzy on account of his reputation of being a football sensation from nearby Shreveport.[6][7] Robertson was a year ahead of Bradshaw, and was the starter for two seasons in 1966 and 1967, and chose not to play in 1968.[8] It was thought he had the potential for a pro career, but his mind was elsewhere.[3] In an interview with ESPN, Robertson stated that:

"One time a bunch of geese came over and I was over there with the coach and talking about techniques or whatever, a big skull session on the practice field. I heard these geese. Remember we were practicing in the fall of the year — and the grand passage as we call it — the ducks and geese were coming from Canada. I heard these blues and snow geese coming over and I sort of fell into a trance. Of course I had my headgear next to my chest and I'm looking toward the sky and finally one of them coaches looked around, and he started cursing at me, "What are you doing son? Get over here! What are you looking up at?" I said, "A bunch of them geese, Coach. Boy they pretty, ain't they?" He said, "Get your butt over here."

And this was most certainly not a secret; even Bradshaw claimed that:

"The quarterback playing ahead of me, Phil Robertson, loved hunting more than he loved football. He'd come to practice directly from the woods, squirrel tails hanging out of his pockets, duck feathers on his clothes. Clearly he was a fine shot, so no one complained too much."

When Paul Harvey confronted Robertson with a recruitment to play professionally for the Washington Redskins, he declined because football conflicted with his hunting. Besides, football was only about holding up his scholarship to him, while Bradshaw practically lived and breathed the sport.[7] Robertson put it in this way: "Terry went for the bucks, and I chased after the ducks."[3]

Degrees and first jobs[edit]

After receiving his bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's in education, Robertson spent several years teaching. He said while his students claim he was an excellent teacher, spending time in a classroom brought him to the conclusion that his time and talents would be better spent in the woods.[10]

I sense it will be a bigger loss for A&E than the gang from duck dynasty who have a huge following and were already successful and being paid very little from the network anyhow.

I'm guessing the show will be worth a mint in syndication.

I do find it quite odd that the family just did a documentary where they all talked about family demons such as infidelity and alcoholism yet in this interview those two things are brought up in his argument.

Do as I say....

I just looked at a snipet of the interview, he has his opinions like anyone else.

You know what they say about opinions..............

That was the point he was making, he was talking about his past and his preference for women, and how sinful he was.  How his life was consumed by chasing women and getting drunk.  Then he said he couldn't understand finding that with the same sex, it is all blown out of proportion. Then he stated that it was his faith that saved him and could others as well. He wasn't as the media reporting ranting against any segment of society and placing himself above it, rather how he came out of it.

A&E is treading on thin ice.  No matter what they finally do, they are going to have a lot of folks angry at them.  They have to decide which is best for their bottom line, not their principles.

I remember reading where Phil never had an interest in doing the show and the publicity and fame that would come along with it until he realized he could use the show to spread Gods Message. I had read where Willie was the one who always wanted to be a movie star (famous).

I agree with that 100% above statement.

That is my problem with the show, willie and the rest of em are out to be rock stars. Now is the time for Willie and the rest of Phil's kids to show their true colors. Well what's it gonna be Willie $$$ and fame or standing with your dad and hopefully what you believe in as well.

Even if they drop the show someone else will pick it up. There is no way that another channel won't pick up on a huge money maker like Duck Dynasty, and all this attention they're getting will probably just make it bigger.

I don't know about that, the gay and lesbian community is huge in hollywood. These days you need to please that crowd to not have a uproar.

Phil will probably make an apology statement and move it along.

They're about halfway there, they have 51 episodes, 100 is generally the rule for syndication.

Gilligan's Island only ran for three seasons, which might be close to 100, but not quite, and that has to be one of the biggest syndication successes.

Gilligan's Island, 3 seasons, 98 episodes. They ran seasons longer back then.

Also, much more cerebral humor than DD, lol.
