Denali Kovert Or St.croix Mojo

I've been looking into getting a Denali Kovert 6'10"m rod for jerkbaits and small cranks but I seen the St.Croix rebate sale on Gandermountain and they have the glass mojo bass target crankbait rod that is 6'10"m as well.  Ive really been wanting to get my hands on a Kovert but with that sale I could save some money and get a rod that has the specs Im looking for.  Has anyone on here used a Glass Mojo crankbait rod or a Kovert?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I own the mojo glass crankbait rod, really nice  crank stick but It wouldn't be my first choice for a jerkbait rod.. I use the Denali Murphy signature for jerkbaits, poppers and small squarebills just a great rod. The kovert would work well also.Its just a touch long for a jerkbait rod for my taste.

I have used the mojo bass glass cranking rod as well, great for small cranks like square bills and shallow running baits, but jerkbaits I would probabily use the 6'8" M/XF graphite rod this would also do just fine for small cranks just use mono or floro...

Not to bust your balls or anything but i see you are not a St. Croix dealer and the rod you recommended is one that you do carry....maybe it is just the cynic in me coming out so feel free to disregard

The Dobyns is more than I'm looking to spend right now.  I'm looking to spend at the most around $150.

 I just bought a Denali Kovert but I got the 7'8" X-Hvy for flipping punching. IMO, The Kovert is built very well and seems like it will be a great Rod. I plan to buy the 6'10" Kovert next month and I would say go with the Denali BUT I have not fished either rod you have ask about, I only replied because I just bought a Denali Kovert and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it is.

I have both the Kovert and the Mojo, and IMO the Kovert is a much better rod. More comfortable, better build quality, lighter, more balanced, great duribility and better looking in my opinion. If I had to buy another out of these 2 rods, Denali Kovert no doubt. Its a great rod you wont be disappointed.

I use the 6'8" Denali Murphy Signature Jerkbait Rod. Great length for that. I have a Kovert 7'6" Crankbait rod that has great feel. You cannot go wrong with the Kovert Series rods.

I have to say I would pick the Kovert as well. By the time you get it shipped it should be under your budget still. The 6'10 would be a great choice and you could also use this rod for multiple techniques. You only live once!

I would definitely go with denali but for a jerkbait  go with the murphy signature series topwater/jerkbait rod .it is an awesome rod and put many fish in the boat for me this fall.

I can not speak of other rods because I only use Denali rods  .I know some people will think of course he uses them and endorses Denali because he is on their pro staff.

 

Before I signed a contract I researched the rods and the company .I would not endorse something I did not believe in. .I'm a local Pro with 50 plus years experience. There are other things to think about when buying a rod. Customer service and the  integrity and honesty of the company.

There customer servicer at Denali  is fantastic, The Owner Scott Estes will answer the phone and answer all your questions you may have and take his time and not rush you(how many large corporations do that). The National sales manger Mike Helton is the same way  ,All of this means allot to me and I'm sure you as well. These big corporations who buy up all the good small companies are trying to cash in on the these companies reputation! What happens they, make the rod cheaper in construction get a big name pro to endorse them and it is all down hill from there. Look what happened to Allstar rods after Pure Ffishing bough them. Now you can not find a new Allstar rod. The same thing happened when Browning bough Lew's reels. If you are old enough to remember

 

Denali makes a great rod that will last you a long time and have people who will stand by them and they also have a life time warranty , There Jadewood rod For $99 is a great buy and compares to many rods that are higher in price..

 

I have been on my soap box a long time so I will get to the point. The 6'10" Kovert rod I assume you mean the crankbait rod is a great rod for Sq bills small to medium crankbaits, traps but I think is to stiff for a top water unless it's  a buzz bait. The Michael Murphy rod is the best for TW and jerrkbaits and small to medium CB's in open water .If you are going to use allot of SQ' bills, small and med CB's in heavy cover stick with the 6'10" Kovert. You could use the Kovert for TW but you need to careful and play the fish as this is a stiff rod for top water .You could use mono with allot of stretch which  be would helpful with using this rod for top water.

 

It all depends on what you would use it for. If you could afford both that's what I would do . Then you got it all covered  .You need to think of rods like golf clubs. You would not use a putter for driving or vice versa. Hope this helps and does not confuse you.

The mojo line was okay for me when I Owned them except their cranking rods which I thought were excellent for the price. They have added to the lineup since I last owned one as well. However I never did own the jerkbait/topwater rod they put out. I don't know of it's glass or graphite.

Denali has a solid rep and a solid fan base just like St. Croix. I'm sure either one will be satisfactory to you.

The jerkbait rod in the Mojo line is graphite, and a fast action. I owned it, as well as the jerkbait rod in the Legend Tournament line....both were/are 6'6" M/F. They were fine rods for jerkbaits. And had I not gotten bored with St Croix, I would probably still have them.

I always used short 6'3" rods for jerkbaits but the last 2 years I've been using a 6'10" rod them and it took a bit to get used to but now I love it. As for your situation, if it is between the 2 rods, go with the Kovert, the reason is 2 fold, first off the glass rod is going to be much heavier, using a jerkbait rod that is heavy will wear you out over the course of a day. The second reason is the moderate action, it is good for cranks and treble hook baits in general but you really can't work a jerkbait correctly with the moderate rod, at least I can't. The Denali Murphy signature jerkbait rod is too soft in my opinion, I think the Kovert you are looking at will be fine for what you want to do but it is a much better choice than glass.

Ive used both rods and hands down denali rods all the way! I have had great support and comunications for the last three years and ive been part of the prostaff that long as well. But as a fisherman i would still choose the denali kovert over any other rod!

I love these completely "unbiased" recommendations but i do give you kudos for at least admitting you are on their pro-staff.

I give my input because Im on the prostaff because of the rods and the service. Thats the reason im on the prostaff quality of the rods and the service. As you may know almost any rod maker will let you on the prostaff. I CHOOSE denali!
