Hi all

Its going into mid-summer here now and we have been fortunate enough that most days have been cloudy and rainy, so the fishing has been ok.

Pretty soon the heat will be on with clear skies and temps in the 30's.

As you know the bite can get tough. On Sunday it was pretty steamy, water temps around 25c and after the morning bite died off, we were cruising some of the rocky banks and the finder picked up lots of fish at the 10m (30') range on the rocky ledges. All over the dam that depth seemed to hold fish. I was dragging a T-rigged liz and only manage one bite. My deep diver cranks would get nowhere close to that depth. Most of our fish where caught before 10am fishing the reed lined banks and water weed in approx 9' of water.

So the question is how would you entice these fish to bite? What would your 5 top Summer lures be? Scanning some of the articles it seems a jig is the lure of choice...

Pic is ls the largest I managed on Sunday, caught with a watermelon seed lizard.

Thanks guys

Fluke

Jig and craw

Senko

Spro Frog

Baby brush hog.

Jigs, shakyheads, deep spinnerbaits, texas rigged worms, deep diving cranks. If i were you i would try a jig and if that doesnt work try fishing a shakyhead really slowly shaking it on the rocks.

Definitely get into drop shotting, if you locate fish on or near the bottom. They'll even go after it when suspended; I've actually seen (on the graph) suspended fish go down towards my drop shot before it hit the bottom.

You can also try floating a wacky rigged Senko under a slip bobber. Very deadly, especially if there's a light chop on the water. There is a good article, in the "pinned" section" of one of the forums here, depicting this technique. This works wonders when they are really finicky.

For me, this year, my most productive summer baits were:  A - Jika rigged soft plastic ( mostly one brand or another of creature bait)

B - square bill crank ( primarily a Timber Tiger DC 8 or DC 4)

                                                                                              C - weightless senko - wacky rigged

D - deeper diving crank ( primarily as Timber Tiger DC13 or DC16, but I fished lots of different deep divers)

E -  Bubba drop shot  ( Berkley Chigger Craw was best bait with a Berkley Jerk Shad a strong second.

I spent this season learning soft baits:
1. Zoom U-Tale in gourd green, T-rigged worked best.
2. 5" Watermelon w/copper& orange w/red (say that 5x fast) Senko, mostly T-rigged, sometimes whacky.
3. 6" Berkley Gulp pumpkinseed night crawler, T-rigged, weighted & weightless.
4. Berkley 7" electric blue Powerbait, T-rigged, weighted & weightless.
5. 4" watermelon w/red & green flake Senko, yep, you guessed it, weighed & weightless.

It's snowing out now, so we'll see what I try in the Spring.

Merry Christmas everyone!

All types of jigs? Swim jigs, football, flipping and pitching? I have never really fished jigs before, so as soon as ice is gone around here I am getting into it.

Not in any particular order.  Senko probably would produce the most #'s with the Jig or Crankbait yeilding a bigger fish on average.
