A lot of people will recommend the BPS Pro Qualifier, and it is a great reel, I would suggest either the Lews Speed Spool ($100.00) or the evercast military or college series reels($60.00-$80.00). another option is getting a used Shimano citica or Lews Tournament MG.

I like Denali Jadewood rods. The range from $99 to  $119.They are very durable and the custemorr service is great. If you need to call them you can speak to the owne. The rods have life time warrenty. They have a speical line guide made for them. The insert will not come out like most rods do sooner or later.I have used my rods for over two years and not one line guide trouble.Read reviewsa on tackle warehouse of people who have bough Denali rods. You will be amazed.I have used every rod just about and now use only Denali.Sold all the other brands. If you want to pay a little more they have a new line that sells for $129

The BPS Pro Qualifier is top notch.  It's $80 bucks + free shipping right now.  Hard to beat that!

I am also partial to the Abu Silver Max and Pro Max reels.  The Orra reels are also around the same price point and a little better.

Your right...looks like the sale is over.

It's still worth the $100 asking price. Every penny.

For me, a $100 reel would be either the Pro Qualifer, the Abu Garcia Orra SX, or the Lew's Speed Spool. These all have aluminum frames. I would not consider a baitcast reel that did not have a metal frame. Graphite flexes too much and will cause problems. The Bionic Plus at Bass Pro also has an aluminum frame and goes for $80.

Go with the Lew's Speed Spool. Only cost around $90 and is a work horse, I have one on a Shimano Cumara and it balances out perfectly, super smooth retrieve, and great drag for the price.

If you can wait a month or two bass pro will have their sale and usually you can pick up the PQ for a good price and other reels as well.  A few years back they had the citicas with a mail in rebate combined with the reel trade in and i got my citicas for well under 100 a piece

Every reel I own has been purchased for well under $100 and they perform fine for what I need...  I am not a tournament fisherman, but like to think I am an above average angler..  I seriously bought Pinnacle Solene for $29 off a pawn store website and it works great for me..  Also have Abu Black/Silver Max reels, Pinnacle LP100, Pinnacle Solene..  I am using super cheap reels, of couse the durability isn't going to be there in the long run but with a toddler and a wife I understand the need for budget minded purchases... FYI Cabelas has the Tournament ZX on sale for $29.99 - usually sells for $79.99..  I ordered 4 so we will see how those work out...  Also, try the flea market on here and get more reel for your dollar...  just my 2 cents

H2O Xpress mettle by far. I have 3 of them. Aluminum frame, good drag, smooth retrieve, and centrifugal brakes all for $50.

No question about it, if you have a family and need to go low price get the H2o Mettle, it is a whole lot for a small price ($50.00). I do not see how they sell it for that price to start with and if you can wait they will soon have a sale on them and you can buy them for $39.99. Very good reel for the price. Now if you can save up the money to that $115 that Mr. Ron was talking about the Daiwa Tatula is a Beast of a reel, you will love it.

You can buy Daiwa Tatula for around $115 on the auction site. (I snatched mine for $101 shipped)  I just used mine today for the first time and I really like this one. It cast well with a good break. It is very smooth with lots of bearings.

Or you can find Citica G for around $100. Been using this for two seasons. This can cast as well as Tatula. If you can do a bit of clean up, used one can be had for a lot less.

Never used PBS Pro Qualifier, but it sounds like lots of folks like that based on other replies.
