daleste11 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Does anyone know anything about the BPS Pro Qualifier 1000 XPS? I have searched the web and only really come up with old Ebay listings and other random things, however I have the opportunity to pick up 2 "Brand New" ( just never used, sat on a shelf) for $60. Just wondering if it is worth it?? FYI they are the round models. Quote
grizzly1654 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 That was my first baitcasting reel. I used it for about 8 years and never had any trouble out of it. The only reason I got rid of it was to swap over to low profile reels. Quote
kschultz76 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Considering the current pro qualifier low profile reels were in sale at bps for 79 it doesn't sound like those older versions are a steal. Quote

Of course, that would depend on whether or not the new models are at least as good as the older model. Not always true. Take Cabela's Prodigy baitcast reel as an example. The older gray model is the better reel even if it does have fewer bearings and isn't as pretty. Op, sorry I can't help. My only BPS reels are the older Carbonlites. Guess you could use this reel as an example also. From what I read, the older gold Carbonlite's replacement isn't as good they are. Quote

From what I understand from his post. That is 2 for 60 bucks, not each. So if it's not that far apart in performance, I'd say this would be a steal. Unfortunately, I do not have any experience with the reel so I can't help. Quote

That being the case I've got no experience with that much older model or round reels so I can't weigh in. The current low profile models are excellent performers and value at their price point. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted December 16, 2013 Super User Posted December 16, 2013 I just did a quick search with the following criteria (Google) - bps pro qualifier xps 1000 There is a post about it on the another site.org website. They were comparing the price difference between a Curado vs This reel. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 16, 2013 Super User Posted December 16, 2013 I say go for it considering they were a $100 reel when new 14 years or so ago. For $100 I picked up as a package deal 3 Abu 1600 round reels. Had wanted to try their smaller reels, but only wanted one. It turned out to be a very good investment. Maybe this will turn out as well for you. 2 Quote
