Recently opened my Jefferson's Presidential Select 21 year old bourbon.  Not too bad.

You hear, Jim Beam, Makers Mark, Knob Creek and Canadian Club are now owned by the Japanese http://www.forbes.com/sites/maggiemcgrath/2014/01/13/jim-beam-maker-gets-13-6-billion-buyout-from-japans-suntory/

My wife informed of that yesterday.

In spite of absorbing a large share of their competition, Jim Beam felt it would be more profitable to sell out.

(It drives me to drink)

We have a friend of the family who works for Beam. Haven't spoke with her yet, I hope she doesn't lose the free booze benefit our family has become accustomed to over the years.

On the advice of some of the members on here i picked up a bottle of Evan Williams bourbon and started making some whiskey old fashioned drinks for after work. Thanks guys.  :drunk-37:

My favorite bargain-bourbon!

I just saw a store close to me has Ezra Brooks 90 proof. At 22.99 for 1.75L I'm going to pick a bottle up to try out. Who knows, maybe it will replace ole EW as my go-to everyday drinker.

This store also has Elijah Craig 12 year, which I haven't seen in any other stores around me. One day I will buy a bottle... one day.

Nothing new here, the Japanese have been in the scotch and bourbon game for a while now. They love what we got, Nikes, whiskey, bass fishin lol Hey maybe it will be like their fishing gear they put a lifetime warranty on even the cheap stuff but then again the cheap stuff won't be so cheap if the quality improves.

I really enjoyed the couple of glasses of Blantons. I think neat is the only way for me with that one though. That first sip was something different and you know it right away, in a good way, WOW I thought.

Plan on trying some others mentioned in this thread for sure, cheers

Went ahead and got that bottle of Ezra Brooks 90 proof. I like it! It's 90 proof and you can definitely tell... it's a little rough around the edges, but it has a good taste. I've drank it neat and with one ice cube. It tasted good with the ice cube, definitely a little smoother, but it has some other flavors that are more apparent neat. I will probably drink it neat or with an ice cube depending on my mood... but I wouldn't feel bad about mixing it if I'm so inclined either, given the price.

Those whiskey stones are very interesting. I'm going to have to get some of those.

I like Buffalo Trace and Knob Creek the best, but hope to one day get to try some Pappy Van Winkle.

Whatever you do, DO NOT wash them with soap!  I simply rinse them off with water and put them back in the freezer.  I keep them in a small plate so they're easy to grab.

I do the same, except I throw them in my ice cube holder.  I'm pretty much the only one that uses ice at home.  Last weekend my future mother-in-law had a glass of water and ice and while she was drinking it I asked her if that was heavy ice.  It took her a while to realize what the heck I was talking about.  :laugh5:

If you're drinking 90 proof Ezra Brooks, maybe you should stick with the ice cubes...maybe even add more. :-)

I've seen the whiskey stones before, even considered getting some. I've read reviews that say they don't really do much to cool your drink down because they don't get (and stay) all that cold. Have you ever had this experience?

For me they work great.  Keep them in the freezer.  I use 3 in one cocktail.

Also, just scored a pretty rare bird.  Michters 25 Year old Bourbon.

Just finished off the Michters straight rye and it was great.   I can't imagine how good a 25yr would be.

$300 is a steal of a price for that bottle.

MSRP of course.

There are some local shops out there that advertise it available from 4-500 range. Kind of doubt it as I don't know that I have even seen a 20yr much below that.

Unfortunately I am not in the market to buy either at msrp or not...

Looking forward to opening the bottle.  After tax season at this point.

The 'most aged' bourbon in my personal collection is from Hirsch.  28 year.  I was lucky enough to score two bottles about 3 years ago.  Eventually I'll open one.   I'll wait for 00 Mod to come visit and help me drink it. :)
