Does anyone know if the centerfical weights packed in the shimano kits are of different weights ? They used to pack red and green ones. I just wondered if changing them around would affect the reel's performance.

Yes. I believe clear are the lightest, then red, then green.

I just checked them out on Shimano's website. There are different part numbers for the red and the green. It said nothing about differing weights. Just a word of caution; don't drop any. They charge  $0.43 a piece ................................. :dazed-7:

All the Curado's I have came with the red on the reel, and spare green ones in the box.......Citica's came with red on the reel and grey in the box, and they ARE NOT the same as the Curado's.  The Curado's are round, and the Citica's are more oval/semi square-ish.

You got any spare brakes for the Citica 200E? I lost one in the boat this season and got the reel on a trade with no box/parts.  I'll reimburse you with a stamp if you're willing to part with one.

Nope, all my Citica's are gone. I had the chance to replace them with Revo STX's so I jumped on that. All I have Shimano wise now are Curados.

Thanks man. I think 00 might have a spare for me. Appreciate the response.

The extra brake shoes are for heavier baits, or greater braking power. Chances are, you'll never need them.

interesting, i never realized that.

i think my chronarch E6 has light gray ones, and my Curado G6 has green ones. i'm to a point where i'm comfortable running 2 breaks on my chronarch plus some spool tention, though if i want max distance i release spool all the way and thumb it. in the last few months i never had an overrun due to my error (except when i hit something mid flight or clip weeds around me :) ). i tuned my curado and also run that on 2 breaks, but still feel like i could get more distance out of it, perhaps i'll see if i have some spare light break shoes to put into my curado.

also considering putting ceramic breaks in my reels and run them dry for max distance. some canals i go to in S. FL. are really wide and have road and bank access on the side i fish, and very thick vegetation on the other where i know fish are, but i can never cast to those spots unless i REALLY swing it hard.

I tried running ceramic bearing dry, but the noise drove me crazy!

So, I had to add a drop of oil which might impact maximum performance,

but not by much.

Thanks , Jeff. I really don't need any. I just happened to spill a bunch on the floor today and it got me to pondering the different colors.

Shimano's brake weights are as follows;

clear - lightest

smoke - light

red/pink - medium

green - heaviest

You can tell the difference by looking at the thickness of the tops of the brakes, (by top I mean the part that actually touches the brake race) the greens for example are the thickest and therefore heaviest which results in their providing more braking force due to their heavier weight "pushing" against the brake race harder on a cast. Also due to their thickness they have more surface area touching the brake race also contributing to more braking force.

The new Metanium comes with the red brakes installed but in this reels case the extra white ones that come with it are lighter. I'm not sure if the Chronarch CI4+ is the same or not as I don't own one of those as of yet.

My Chronarch CI4+ came with 4 extra red ones. Has anybody swapped the pink brakes on the Chronarch E for the smoke or white ones?

Both reels should have came with the red/pink ones stock unless you bought them used and someone swapped it out.

I have the clear smoke ones that I ordered from Shimano and it made no difference to me other than it looked cooler. The red ones will cover 99% of all your bass fishing needs.

Before I upgraded to the Curados a few years ago, I would take off all my brakes except two on the Citica to lower the spool weight, not sure it made a difference, it won't matter if you lose one or two unless you care.
