KY Outdoorsman Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I'm looking for a new baitcaster. My budget is 100-150$ for the reel and around 100 for a rod. I've checked out the shimano citica 200g7 which I really like but could someone else give me some advice? I will be using this for jigs and soft plastics if that helps. Can someone give me a good rod to go with it? I really like the duckett rods i just need to know which one would be best for the type of fishing I'll be doing. Thanks for the help everyone!! Quote
KY Outdoorsman Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 What would be other good baitcasters within my budget??*** Quote
daleste11 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 As of now they are not in your budget but actually below it, would be the BPS Pro Qualifier (79.99) I have three right now sitting on Ducket Micro Magic rods and you will have a hard time making me get rid of them. I think a Pro Qualifier in a 7.1:1 Gear Ratio will definately work out well for you. Search around the site though, especially in the Rod, Reels, and Lines section for some other good advice. Go Big Blue! Quote
paul25 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 you can get a shimano carado for $150 and you can't beat those reels for the money i have three of them and haven't had any problems, but i have had good things about the bps pro qualifier reels. I would say a good rod in the $100 dollar price range is the BPS carbonlite rods, i've got one i use for plastics and sometimes an extra jig rod it has pretty good sensitivity too. 1 Quote
J.Bass Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 You could go for a lews speed spool for $99.00 great quality. Also as they said above BPS has some good baitcaster reels. Quote
Super User MCS Posted December 10, 2013 Super User Posted December 10, 2013 I hear some higher end lews are going for 150 Also some diawa and quantum stuff in your range that are retired models that sold for 200 or over if you look around. Lots of closeouts keep your eyes peeled.... Quote

Lots of closeouts keep your eyes peeled.... You're right, the Tournament Pro Speed Spool can be had for anywhere from 120-160 new if you look around enough. I got one at full price (199) and it's worth every penny. What you can get them for now amazing. Quote
kingkong85 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Shimano curado, daiwa tatula, and any lew's reels. Im sure there are many more that I just don't know about. I would get the reel in 7.1:1 or higher gear ratio. For rods, *** *** black. Only one I will recommend cause I don't know too much in the 100 dollars range. Check out tackle tour's review of the *** black. Quote
GaterB Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 KY Outdoorsman, check out Valley Sports aka Beat the Big Box Boys. They are a sponsor on this site, and the prices are the best I've seen. The new Tatula Reels from Daiwa are right in your price range and Valley will have them cheaper than anyone. Give them a call and they'll help you out even more. As for the Duckett rods, I use the 7' MH Micro Magic for plastics and light to medium weight jigs. Can't go wrong there. Light, sensitive, and has been super durable for me throughout the year I've had it. If you wait a little bit, Duckett is coming out with a "Ghost" line of rods for $100 that look pretty sweet. Youtube it or search in this forum for more info. I'm excited to see what Duckett will offer in the $100 price range. Quote
bootytrain Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 T3 Ballistic is in your price range, T wing system and Daiwas most advanced braking system. I hear they can handle a wide range of weights 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 10, 2013 Super User Posted December 10, 2013 I would go for a curado, or a revo. Quote
daiwaguy Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 T3 Ballistic is in your price range, T wing system and Daiwas most advanced braking system. I hear they can handle a wide range of weights And I believe these are still on sale at TW for 125.00, that is a smoking deal. You would love it. Quote

I hear they can handle a wide range of weights Isn't the Tatula just an improved version, or, evolution of the T wing concept? That is how I see it. If I was going Daiwa, I think the best value in their lineup is now the Tatula. Just my opinion. This is coming from a Shimano Curado sort of guy! Just let us know what you wind up with and how you like it, KY Outdoorsman! Quote

Just let us know what you wind up with and how you like it, KY Outdoorsman! Its a different version of the t wing that doesn't require the hood to pop up and down. The main differences are frame material and braking system. The 3D on the T3 is the bet Daiwa has to offer. Quote

The Lews TP can be had new for that price if you search. After all the reviews that came out of the woodwork with the Daiwa T3B I'd also consider that one. Check the fleamarket as well. A couple of our members are selling some pretty killer reels for pretty cheap. Quote
KY Outdoorsman Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Thanks for the help guys Quote
harmon Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 You can still find NEW AG revo STX gen 2 on ebay for 150.00, cant beat it for the price. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 T3B for 125 is about the best deal I have seen, especially for flipping and pitching (8:1 gear ratio) Mitch Quote
MacP Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 If you want new, any Lew's! The Bass Pro Pro Qualifier can't be beaten for the price. Quote
bsetlock Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 The new Tatula's are awesome.... just sayin Quote
Jaiden Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Bass Pro Pro Qualifier or the Revo S are two great choices that I have had experience with. Quote

Super User Darren. Posted December 13, 2013 Super User Posted December 13, 2013 If I had the $$ laying around, I'd probably opt for a Daiwa T3 at TW given the sale... Red or yellow, that's another decision to make That said, you *might* be able to find even a Shimano Chronarch on eBay for in the neighborhood of your $150 number. I picked my 50e up for a tad more $$ than the $150, but dang if I haven't been happy with the purchase!! Quote
