I've never thrown an umbrella rig before. I want to throw one using rods I have, possibly my frog rod (H power, lure rating up to 2 oz.) . What would you recommend to start with? I would like to start off with something small. Thanks!

Do u have a heavy action cranking rod... I'm guessing it could work.

No I don't. Frogging rod is the only H I have.

Yumbrella Flash Mob Jr.  The Lucky Craft Bevy Rig looks oh so tempting though

Any particular head/bait work well with this?

I haven't had much luck with the finesse rigs, just don't think they spread the baits out far enough I guess. If you find a big rig with a resin head and just add lighter heads you should be able to fish it just fine on the rod you have. I pour my own heads and fish the Zoom swimming fluke or swimming fluke JR a lot.

I just cannot catch a friggin' bass on an A-rig... I live in SE Pa, and we dont have shad here, but mainly bluegills. I've tossed one around quite a bit and no dice...

You are going to want to check out the Paycheck Baits Donkey Thrasher   ~

I don't fish the Rig a ton - but this is the Only one I throw.

This is a light rigging that produces for me:

Outside arms: LFT 3 1/2" Live Magic Shad on 4/0 EWG light wire hooks, no weights.

Inside arm: Johnson Silver Minnow

Keitech swimbaits make the best Flash Mob Jr. baits.  Gotta love that squid scent.

On the cheaper side the Havoc Beat Shads work well too.  I have them both rigged in my Bama Box.
