Would need proof marks etc from barrel to see who actually made it. Unless its an old old one (they're all old) it could be a Spanish made import.

Thanks retiredbosn, imported sounds expensive.  All I know is that Sears use to sell this shot gun in their catalog.

Not necessarily, if I could see the proof marks I could tell ya for sure. Most older slug barrels are just an improved with rifle sights. I used to be into shotguns big time, I still get calls about old doubles, who made them, value, etc. Could bore ya for hours on forcing cones, overboring, length of choke, etc. Probably already have

That all sounds very interesting. Not boring at all. I will get the pic on here when I can. I will get a pic of another one off the net I can post that one tomorrow. I love shot guns but can only afford that j.c.higgins for now.

i don't think that higgins made a rifled barrel back then, thats if your talking over 20 plus years.

Yeah I think I am talking about over 50 years ago.  Its a well made 12 guage that is still fully functional but a rifled barrel would sure make it that much nicer.

JC HIggins was a Sears Store Brand that was actually made by other companies. Somewhat like Diehard batteries are made by one of the major battery mfg like Johnson Controls.

 

I used to have a Sears JC HIggins Ted Williams lever action 30-30 that was made by Winchester. I think I purchased that in the 1960's. The only difference between that and the Winchester brand model 94 was the JC Higgins was drilled and tapped for a side mount scope and it was less expensive than the Winchester.

 

The shotguns were made by High Standard Arms.

Ok chances are there is an aftermarket barrel for the gun. Without seeing it I can't tell who made it, Mossberg, Winchester or who.
