tytay89 Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Had a great trip, the weather was perfect temps reached the low 70s- fish where caught 10-25 fow on 1/2 oz football jigs only caught one over 21 inch mark. Your only aloud one "over" and one "under " because the lake has strange regulations trying to protect the fish. Might be doing it more harm then good. The fishin is tough to say the least but did end up around ten fish a day and with weather the way it was it was nice to just get out with the pops... http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff452/tytay89/9A48E96A-C1B1-471D-998F-4DE8242B6E53_zps92gzxywl.jpg Over^^^ http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff452/tytay89/EEE74B39-D550-4533-B519-4A281F01176A_zpsglq61xf1.jpg Right at 20 inch http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff452/tytay89/8EE50A75-C01C-4404-8815-802377622392_zpsoy0didgu.jpg Pig http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff452/tytay89/8570E336-904A-45B7-8985-0DCCEC092CEB_zpsjt019sg3.jpg 2 Quote
KyakR Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Wish the weather up here were that warm to fish in! Those are some nice fish! Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 9, 2013 Super User Posted December 9, 2013 Congrats on a most excellent outing & some very respectable Bronze backs ~ A-Jay Quote
Super User RoLo Posted December 10, 2013 Super User Posted December 10, 2013 Those are some beauties. We've been to the Hollow (celina) and miss that serpentine gem. Roger Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted December 13, 2013 Super User Posted December 13, 2013 .... The fishin is tough to say the least but did end up around ten fish.... There is a reason the locals call it the dead sea, on the VA side at least. Nice fish btw Quote
Super User RoLo Posted December 14, 2013 Super User Posted December 14, 2013 There is a reason the locals call it the dead sea, on the VA side at least. Nice fish btw 'Locals' on the Virginia side?? Humph....TN & KY are still vying for the World-Record Smallmouth Bass set by Dale Hollow Reservoir. I guess Virginia threw in the towel (jk) Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted December 14, 2013 Super User Posted December 14, 2013 If you're fishing Dale Hollow hoping to catch the next WR smallie, you are fishing the wrong lake. I wish I could find the article that dead sea jab comes from. Quote

I wish I could find the article that dead sea jab comes from. I agree. I watch the smalljaw site & I'm always amazed by the lack of 5 & 6 lb bass caught down there. The bass pictures that are posted up usually evidence long fish not carrying much weight. I guess the forage base has greatly changed for the worse. Its too bad because it was a historic legend at one time and the home of the world record. Quote
tytay89 Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 thats what i like- make the place so great i hope everyone think like u two.... keeps it nice n quite Quote
Super User RoLo Posted December 15, 2013 Super User Posted December 15, 2013 If you're fishing Dale Hollow hoping to catch the next WR smallie, you are fishing the wrong lake. I wish I could find the article that dead sea jab comes from. Maybe I worded it poorly, but my post was made in jest. For many years, Tennessee & Kentucky BOTH laid claim to the David Hayes world-record smallmouth bass as both states embody Dale Hollow Res. Virginia however lies many miles to the east of Dale Hollow, far away from the fray....hence: "Locals on the Virginia side??" Whether Dale Hollow is a candidate for a new world-record, that's another ballgame. Roger Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted December 15, 2013 Super User Posted December 15, 2013 Roger, When I posted the VA local line, I was thinking Holston, VA/TN border near Bristol. Sorry about that. Its about a three hour drive from there to The Hollow. By the time I realized my mistake you had already quoted my mistake, so I just left it. The "dead sea" jab I believe had it genesis in the 89 die off and I think it was printed shortly after the 2012 episode. Man I wish I could find that article. Dale Hollow is unique and there is a definite learning curve there. Anyway hope that clears up the VA local part for ya. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted December 15, 2013 Super User Posted December 15, 2013 Bosun, small potatoes & dead issue ;-) Hey, speaking of South Holston, you might remember when it pumped out a few surprise hogs. Around 2009 it produced a 7-lb 4-oz smallie, then a week later it yielded an 8-lb 10-oz! Roger Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted December 15, 2013 Super User Posted December 15, 2013 Don't want to completely hijack the thread, were those caught on the TN side? The VA state record is around 8 isn't it? I'm from WV, the state record there is 9.75 Quote

I'm from WV, the state record there is 9.75 I don't know where on Holston they were taken. Frankly, I've never heard of South Holston until 2009, when that 8-10 rocked the bronzeback world. Yes, the Virginia record is 8-1 from New River, VA in 2003. Just as you said, we don't want to hijack this gentleman's thread. I only came here to congratulate him on his beautful fish on that beautiful lake. Bosun, if you send me a token email I'll attach a photo of the Holston Hippo in my reply. Roger Quote
