I found a brand new in box shimano chronarch 101 D7 at a boat shop about 2 hours from my house today and just had to have it. Pretty excited to have this reel. It will be a nice addition to my shimanos.Does anyone know how long they were made for?

I love finding reels with the handle on the correct side! A few years back, I stumbled across a 301DSV on clearance for <$100 and a couple years before that, I found a Chronarch SF (the gold one) for <$90. Even though I'm a Shimano guy, I snagged a new Black Max for $15 today. I'm sure I'll figure out something to do with it.

Chronarchs are very fine reels no matter to which series they belong.

I wouldn't. They go for well over that looking like they made it through Armageddon on ebay.

To bad the D series reels were discontinued as fast they were introduced....

This is true, but when you are used to the D series, you can see why there was major outrage when the Chronarch E was introduced. The topic has been discussed Ad Nauseam so I won't go further. By most accounts, the ci4 chronarch has brought some oomph back to the chronarch line.

Keep that D close and don't let go lol
