Super User OkobojiEagle Posted December 7, 2013 Super User Posted December 7, 2013 Is a 5.x - 1 gear available for a Chronarch 51e? oe Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted December 7, 2013 Super User Posted December 7, 2013 I was looking for this same question a while ago and I believe (not 100%)the old calais 5:1 gears work in the curado/chronarch 50 but i'm not sure on the availability of the part anymore. francho or DVT may have more insight on obtaining the parts. Super User Raul Posted December 7, 2013 Super User Posted December 7, 2013 I´m 100% shure that there is a possible gear swap ---> Curado 51e gears. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 In general reels with the same frame and case dimensions will allow gear swaps, but I can't recall any 50 size reels made in a cranking ratio. Quote
curtis9 Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Is there a 5:1 gear set that fits the 100 size shimanos (100b, 50mg)? Quote
bass1980 Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Would a Shimano Aldebaran gear set work? It seems to be close to the 50 series size and has a 5.8:1 ratio? Just throwing it out there for the reel gurus. Quote
Trey Harpel Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 What, Trey Harpel? Hootie I deleted what I said as I thought he posted a 200E not the 50E... There seems to be no cross platform gear swap that I can find Quote
TrippyJai Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 You can swap with the Aldebaran mg (5.8:1) gears. I'm not sure where you can get the parts from because NA Shimano doesn't carry them. You might have to order it from a Japanese website. It'll give you 23" IPT with the 5:8:1 gears vs. a E5 that is 21" IPT. The 50E stock gears is 25" IPT. So overall, you'll only be gaining 2" less IPT, not much of a difference and it's going to cost you quite a bit for parts and shipping. Quote
