Opinion Needed W/ Rod

Well question is on choice with new bass rod I'm looking to get in the off season. Been new here and reading quite a bit on certain rods mentioned. Next rod would be used for bass jigs/football jigs.

Also, tend to use texas rigs. I've seen Dobyns rods being mentioned a bit. Majority of rodsI have are Shimano Crucial. I want a 7'3" / 7'4" rod. Any idea on Shimano Cumulus rods. Willing to pay for either.

Other techniques used are senkos, swim jigs and spinnerbaits.

So far im looking to try a Dobyns so far or if theres any other equal to ones mentioned id appreciate thoughts.

Oh yes heaviest weight used is 3/4 oz.

How about a budget for the rod?

You mention a shimano cumulus? This rod line has been discontinued and now the highest end shimano rod is the Gen 2 cumara. Also the longest cumulus rod built was 7'1. The specs of the rod are MH fast and I don't think the rod could handle 3/4 oz baits all that well. These were meant to be ultra light in weight and very sensitive rods. I have the 6'10 MH fast casting rod and it fishes closer to a true medium powered rod. They don't fish as powerful as the cumara line. The cumulus rods retailed for $349 and now near impossible to find.

If you look at dobyns a champion or champion extreme 734 would be a good bet but would likely struggle with 3/4 oz baits as the rod is really better with the 3/8 to 1/2 baits. The 745 would be too much rod for senkos but if 3/8 is the lowest you would throw it may just be the best bet for the techniques you mentioned. Ron, a forum sponsor can get you a deal on one.

The best rod I have used for those techniques and weight ranges is megabass extreme mission type f @ $300. It is a 7'5 fast action rod that will fish all those techniques plus bigger cranks well. Perhaps the best and most versatile rod I have fished. I have several dobyns extremes but if I had to buy another rod for those techniques it would be the EMTF.

No problem... it happens to all of us from time to time. Is there a website for _____? I am not sure what you were looking for but TW will have more info on these rod lines and the models within each.

The cumulus rods are excellent but just not the right rod for what you are looking for IMO. A Gen 2 red colored cumara is a love it or hate it rod, with reduced cork grips. Sensitivity and performance is there but the comfort will boil down to the potential buyer.

If you can hang tight until close to Christmas or New Years there will be some more sales as well in the 10-25% plus you may seem some manufacturer start closing our rod models or rod lines as well at a deeper discount.

Personally, if you are throwing heavier jigs and texas rigs primarily, I would use another rod for weightless senkos, probably a 3 power. A 4 or 5 power Dobyns Champion or Champion extreme would be what you're looking for. I just went through the same search and wound up getting a DX 744c for jigs and trigs 1/4 to 1/2oz and a Dobyns Champ 735 for stuff 1/2oz and up. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to fish them yet but there are other guys that have more than enough experience that will hopefully chime in.

Thanks to all who have put in thoughts or comments. Here's the deal, not really worried about the senko part of it. I tend to fish lakes here with grassy sandy bottoms and in spring and fall I like using football jigs. This can be in 5ft to 15ft of water or deeper with progression of season. During summer weeds are present in 20+.

Overall want sensitivity, power and most importantly comfortable handle with length on butt end along forearm. Figure longer rod due to style of fishing and depth fished. Budget is 250 - 350.

Picked up a couple used last winter made on Batson blanks.  Like them a lot.  Seem to be pretty sensitive.  However, the only jigs I fished last year were swim jigs.  You would need a Heavy for 3/4 oz. jigs....at least in the 2 Batson lines I have in MH 3 power.

Wow.  I have paid no attention to Pinnacle products the last few years but these rods actually look and read in print to be pretty nice.  You've definitely broadened your scope.

Sounds like a Dobyns 734 or 744 may fit the bill. I personally don't like the Cumara line of rods. Everything about them is great except for the grip. Its too short for me.
