jeb2 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Man, am I disappointed. I've purchased 3 LC's in the last couple of weeks from 2 different places, some Gunfish and Sammy's. All have had very dull hooks on them. Won't even scratch my finger nail. I ended up replacing them with Daiichi Death Traps, but for $15 a pop, I sure do not expect to have to do this. Is anyone else seeing this trend? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 29, 2010 Super User Posted October 29, 2010 Never...They may be fakes. If you know they are authentic, return them. Quote
WanderLust Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Never...They may be fakes. If you know they are authentic, return them. Indeed... I have a ton of LC stuff and the hooks are razor sharp. His must have been made a Friday or *GASP* fakes... Quote
DBatey Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 I change all my LC hooks out anyway, I have never liked their stock hooks Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 29, 2010 Super User Posted October 29, 2010 I have a few Pointers, and I never saw the need to change out the hooks. I don't know what to tell ya. Quote
OHIO Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Where did you buy them if you don't mind me asking? Quote
Steven Ladner Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 As everyone else as said, the hooks are razor sharp on LCs. Shouldn't be dull at all. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 29, 2010 Super User Posted October 29, 2010 Sounds like fakes. Never had bad hooks on LC. Had a pointer that sunk, but no bad hooks. Hooks are usually good for a season or less, then I change them out for Stingers, as needed. Quote
philsoreel Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 BewaAaAaAre of the ebay Lucky Craft! Especially when the item description goes something like this. For auction is Lucky Craft the Pointers 115 SPECIAL COLOR the Anthrax Apple Maximum fishes with this one Thank you Thank you Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted October 29, 2010 Super User Posted October 29, 2010 Looks like you've been had !!!!!!!!!!! Quote
jeb2 Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 They are not fakes. All purchased locally from reputable, authorized dealers. I have plenty of other LC's and they all came with sharp hooks. But the last few have not. I wonder if quality control is down recently or something. As I said, very disappointing in a $15 lure. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 I have to say I also purchase a few LC and I also am disappointed in them. Hooks where fine and all but the overall quality of the bait seems lacking. For the money I expected a lot more. Oh well H2O crankbaits are just fine for me Quote

It happens...think of the amount of lures they manufacture and the number of hooks they use for one or two to be dull out of millions it can happen..I would email customer service and I bet they make it right with you.. Before griping on the net about it either take it back to the retailer or email their customer service and you might be surprised at what takes place ;D Quote
Five-Alive Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 I was a victim of the knockoff lucky crafts .......... through eBay a few years ago. The bidding for Lucky craft G-splash's started at $.01 (with something like $5.99 shipping on each) I put in the minimum bid on about 10 of them and won them all for a penny apiece. When they arrived they were all out of the package but with plastic hook protectors on them. The hooks were not as sharp as they should have been and the action was not what I expected and the paint job was a little sloppy. I have caught fish on them but one of them I removed the hooks from and use on my key chain. It was months later that I learned of these being sold on eBay as Lucky Craft and someone mentioned that although they had Luck Craft on them, the "C" in craft was lower case and the real Lucky Craft's it was an upper case "C" or the opposite. Either way, it was a lesson learned. Quote
baluga Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 I change all my LC hooks out anyway, I have never liked their stock hooks 2X, I always replace the with 0wner 2X ST - 41. I've enough number of lost fish due to straigthen or bent stock hooks with LC. Quote

No sense bringing it up with them, if so. I'd just vote with my wallet at that point. Quote
TrippyJai Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 I put the same VMC hooks when I buy custom crankbaits and they are very sharp. I might agree with you if you said that they bend pretty easy, but they are definitely not dull at all. Take it back and get a refund or exchange them. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 29, 2010 Super User Posted October 29, 2010 I put the same VMC hooks Lucky Craft uses Daiichi sharpened VMC hooks. They aren't the same as the VMC replacement hooks you find in most retailers. You can get Lucky Craft replacements, though. VMC Vanadium Inlines are plenty sharp enough, though. Those and ST-36's are what I use. Quote

I bought dozens of LC's this year and didn't have a single issue. I would call Lucky Craft. Something is wrong because you're products have to be first class to sell them for 3x the cost of others and stay in business. Quote
s13john Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 i had a hook break one treble one time when fishing rocks, but they were sharp. Quote

jeb2 Posted October 31, 2010 Author Posted October 31, 2010 While I think they are overpriced, I don't think they're a waste of money. They make a decent lure. Just check those hooks! I was looking for an American Shad Gunfish yesterday and ran to all the local shops that carry LC. None had them, and they are out of stock at most online stores as well. The biggest local shop said they were getting away from LC because LC is having some finanical issues. Something about not paying the fed taxes or something. I've read some threads on forums the last few months saying the same thing. Owner said he figured LC would get bought out by someone else. Not sure if any of that is true, but I found it interesting. Academy H2O's hurting their sales? Quote
