Ideally, I'm looking to get a can for my SR556 and also get the barrel threaded on my groundhog gun so that I can interchange the suppressor.

Anyone have any recommendations? Is it like fishing equipment where there is typically a low-, mid- and high end?

I'll probably have more questions based on future musings. :)

What is the effect on velocity and overall round performance?  I ask because I like to pick off ground pigs from as far as possible.

Not worried so much about it on the AR as I don't shoot it NEARLY as far.

I don't think you can legally change it from gun to gun

Maybe you can but they will both need to be licensed? As long as it's not a wiper type supresser the accuracy shouldn't be affected

I'm not going to say I ever had a wiper style supresser for shooting squirrels in town but I didn't notice any accuracy problems at say 50yds

Speed,  the biggest thing I've found is the Point of Impact shift.  Each suppressor type and brand will be different.   My Scar drops a few inches and my Bolt 22 also drops about an inch.  As far a velocity or performance.  Nothing but the blast and noise changes everything else is pretty negligent.

Hi Salenity,  When you fill out the ATF papers and do all the checks for them the papers follow the suppressor instead of the gun.  I have a FS2000 and a Scar I run mine on.

That's why I want to get my bolt rifle threaded to accept a can, AR already threaded with the flash hider on it.

The registration is for each suppression device, not gun. Also you only have to pay the tax once then.

Now, if you were to have a suppressed SBR then two tax stamps would be needed as if you removed the suppressor the SBR is still an NFA item.

Yup.  Also make sure you always and I mean always have your papers with you when the items are with you.

LOL, good to know. I would honestly have just put them in the safe and left them there.

Dont do that.  Leave the original in the safe and make copies.  I carry copies with me.

There are also restrictions and rules on storage.

Wow.

You'd think a moderately "normal" person (myself) should be able to just pass a background check and then be done with it. Jeez. I'd have no issues passing whatever background check they wanted but all the crap after the fact sounds like a PITA.

The last one I did I had to go to the local PD and get finger printed on ATF cards then get the police chief to sign off on it.  Then ship the 200 dollars with tall the forms to ATF.  Then wait 9 months.

They are a pain to get here in Michigan and once you get it, you better be prepared for a headache. Heaven forbid you pass and your spouse or next of kin comes into possession. They are breaking the law and can be arrested immediately. One of the local gun shops I visit ordered one for a guy and he decided that he wanted to make it a "layaway" deal with the remaining balance. The owner said no and immediately called to cancel the paperwork and sent it back to the manufacturer. He wanted nothing to do with holding it or being in possession of it. I haven't seen much shake this guy, but he didn't like this at all.

I was gonna check at the gun shop here cause a buddy told me he over heard them telling another guy. That it was only around $150 and background check. Made it sound easy. Humm I don't like a hassle in anyway involving the Feds.

Kinda glad my wife tossed my homemade illegally 22cal one.

But I'm sure my new neighbors will soon wish I had it back. Lol.

I hate to get on someone's nerves. But I'm just a little bit country. Or redneck depending on who you ask.

And I kinda feel it's my rite. That's something us country folk have always done for ammuzement.

If it disturbs there movie watching in there $700k house maybe they should have stayed and built in the city. Lol. If they where sitting outside listening to nature or something of the sort I'd care more.
