Chevydriver2123 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I thinking about getting the shimano chronarch ci4+ for Xmas. But I haven't seen to many reviews about it. Does anyone have it or know anyone that does. Or is there a another shimano that is the same price worth getting instead. FYI I just started fishing again this past year and got a shimano caenan first baitcaster. Any Input would be great thanks everyone Quote
bmlum415 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I have one and to me it feels like my metanium but doesn't cast as well but that's also a large price difference. Its a really well built reel and definately worth the price Quote
DelcoSol Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I am in the same boat. Looking at a reel for my DX744. Can't decide on this or a Core or a JDM offering. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted December 5, 2013 Super User Posted December 5, 2013 I don't play with a lot of reels but I like it much better than the e series Quote
bmlum415 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I am in the same boat. Looking at a reel for my DX744. Can't decide on this or a Core or a JDM offering. It depends what youre willing to spend and your application. I own two cores and I like the 101 series for my jerkbaits/ finesse jigs(good allaround reel)and my 51 for flipping and pitching(great finesse reel also). My chronarch ci4 is the best all around reel but excels to me at cranking/spinnerbaits(pretty much everything though) because of x ship. Then i use my metanium xg(also a good all around reel) for deep football jigs on a dx 784. The met. casts really well. going to replace my jerkbait reel for a chronarch 101 D though. To me the chronarch ci4 is the most versatile reel imo. Quote
Virtuoso Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Yeah that's a huge jump from a caenan. But if you got the money do it. The 4 I have a workhorses. Ive been really hard on them to test durability. So far so good. Quote
Chevydriver2123 Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 Is it true you need to oil the brakes every other time you go out Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted December 6, 2013 Super User Posted December 6, 2013 Is it true you need to oil the brakes every other time you go out Where did you read that? Quote
Super User .RM. Posted December 6, 2013 Super User Posted December 6, 2013 Is it true you need to oil the brakes every other time you go out NO it isn't true........ Quote
Chevydriver2123 Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 I saw an unboxing on YouTube and had a yellow paper saying something about the brakes had to be oil every other time you fish 1 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted December 6, 2013 Super User Posted December 6, 2013 I saw an unboxing on YouTube and had a yellow paper saying something about the brakes had to be oil every other time you fish Where did you read that? yep a yellow paper insert in the box has the specific instruction for the SVS. now if its really needed??? clean the brake pipe after each use and add a drop of oil to the brake pipe and bearing recommends lube 1 in 5 outings or once a month Quote

Each use seems a bit ridiculous if you ask me. If that's the case, I'll just get a Core instead. Quote
bmlum415 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I never do anything to my ci4 and I've had it since it came out and I fish 2 times a week. Feels the same as out of the box for me 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 6, 2013 Super User Posted December 6, 2013 I am in the same boat. Looking at a reel for my DX744. Can't decide on this or a Core or a JDM offering. I have this rod, and I prefer the slightly heavier reels on it, over my lighter ones. So far my favorites are a JDM Zillion and a Chronarch e with a Hawgtech handle. I do have the full cork version, so that may be a little different. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Any type, and I mean ANY, of grease on the brake race is going to slow the spool significantly and decrease casting distance. 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted December 7, 2013 Super User Posted December 7, 2013 If you go to YouTube and search for shimano casting reel maintenance you will see a series of videos made. The shimano tech does a good job of explaing the cleaning and maintenance process. Really just need a few tools, a q-tip, and a rag. Quote
curtis9 Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Gander mountain has the core 100 for $269 right now with a $50 off coupon. You can get that reel or the ci4 for 219 right now. Quote
