Trebles Getting Straightened Out

my lucky crafts 65sp are suffering from this and dulled hooks. Ive been missing fish because of it.  Whats the best and strongest hook for the job? what size hook does that lure uses?

 

TW has a sale on trokars but they are exrtra wide gap and probably heavier than the stock hooks and I dont want to affect the action of the jerkbait.

I had to google my lure and you can find someone talking about changing trebles.  Once I learned bandits normally are size 6 and red eye shads are size 4, I know have a good idea of hook size.  If you change to a short shank, you can up a size.  I ordered size 2s for my Red eye shads and size 4 for the bandits.  

 

If you look up your lure on TW, it shows the hook size for most luck craft.  not sure if it will let me link to TW but it is on there.

65s shows a hook size of 8.  that is very small.  You could probably fit 6s on it and you will increase hook ups.

Dont change the size.  If you do it may sink instead of suspend.  TW has LC replacement hooks in size 8

On crankbaits and lipless baits it's ok to go up a size with a short shank treble.  You have to be very careful with suspending jerkbaits though, especially one's that are that small.  Buy the Lucky Craft trebles in the same size as what came on the bait originally or you risk drastically altering the acton and suspension of the bait.

they are getting a little dulled but mainly the problem is that those hooks get bent. when the hooks gets a little out of shape I start losing fish. Unfortunately the fish at home are not hitting jerkbaits bigger than that unless they are really aggresive. 

 

tilapia jaws tend to mess them up a little in shape and sharpness

stick with the same size.  you don't want to mess up the action/suspending of an LC pointer... that is why they catch so many fish.

how about short shank in size 6? im upping the size but not chaging the weight that much. im checking kvds mustad

Round bend gammies or mustads in 8's are what I fish on my 65's and have no problem with hooks bending. A light rod and soft drag will both help also.

You can try it but I would bet money it will sink your bait.  The KVD hooks are 2X, meaning they are made with heavier wire.  The line between sinking and suspending is razor thin, especially on a tiny bait.

Takes a lot for me to change hooks, don't really mind having only 2 of 3 hooks on my trebles.  When I do replace hooks I use only 3x for freshwater (not brand fussy) and 4x VMC perma for saltwater.
