awefvawervwae Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Im toying with changing out my 10 year old wore out Minn Kota Maxxum on the front of my ranger 185. Its become sloppy, noisy, and peddal/direction is off. Been toying with the idea of one of the electric steer versions as the co-piolit sounds kinda nice since I also troll for stripers from time to time. What is the difference between the Power Drive V2 and the Terrova other than the pedal setup and price? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 4, 2013 Super User Posted December 4, 2013 I've owned both and currently have the Terrova. First, let me say, if you're not planning on a remote controller stay away from the V2. The only foot pedal worse than the V2 was on the original Powerdrive. Main differences are the option for 36v and higher thrust on the Terrova, the foot pedal, and the deploy/stow mechanism. The ipilot is available for both and IMO a great investment. Quote
awefvawervwae Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Another question is there that big of a difference between 70# and 80#? Im not sure what I have on there now as it is what was on it when i bought it. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 4, 2013 Super User Posted December 4, 2013 That I couldn't tell you. I had the 70 on a 17' boat and the 80 is on a 20' boat. As soon as I can swing it, I'm putting a 101 on. The 70 was perfect for the 17 footer. The 80 seems underpowered on the 20 footer when it's windy. Quote
cadman Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I have a Terrova on my 19'6 Ranger 619VS. I have an 80 lb thrust, and I love my motor. If you get this motor don't get the co-pilot, definitely get the I-pilot as it is worth every penny. The I-pilot does everything the co-pilot does plus a lot more. Also if you go that route get the Terrova that has the built in transducer for your graph. Prior to this boat I had a 17' aluminum deep "V" Magna 17 with a power drive. The power drive always had a slow response time and I went through three pedals with that motor. I would buy another Terrova and probably go with the 101 lb thrust. But the 80lb does work really well in my opinion even in the wind. Now we are not talk 60 mph winds here though. Nice thing about it is I rarely use my foot pedal, unless it is really windy. Remote all the way. Quote
B@ssCrzy Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Terrova is a heavier built unit than the Power Drive V2 in many areas. Foot pedal is much better. Shaft is thicker than the V2, and has notch in it so that you can thread your sonar transducer wire up the shaft if you need a transducer that is not supported by the US2 sonar. Stowing and deploying is a cinch compared to the V2. V2 has a problem with the shaft sticking (or not being smooth in deploying and stowing). I just bought my Terrova 55lb thrust in the spring of this year after much research and fished with it all summer. I love it. I can't say enough good things about it. The other thing is that the Terrova I believe is a newer model so there is a better chance that they will discontinue the Power Drive V2 before the Terrova. Which means they will stop releasing add-ons that will work with the V2 first. I have yet to be able to afford the I-Pilot, but hopefully in a year or two will be able to do so. I do have the autopilot which is still very nice. After using the Terrova I don't ever see myself going back to a cable steer trolling motor. Keep in mind that the pedal wire that attaches to the motor is about 16ft so even if you don't buy the co-pilot you can still sit about anywhere you want in your boat and use the pedal. 1 Quote
