FishingMastah1 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I need of a quality spinning reel less than $50. Wording is a little tricky for the search function, and hard to find anything online, help much appreciated. Quote
fishguy613 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Several people will probably recommend to spend the extra $10 or so and get the Pflueger President. Great reel, I have one. Or maybe you can find one on sale for <$50 Quote

fishguy613 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I could be mistaken but i think the president is only offered in the 5.2:1 ratio. Also make sure you grab the 30 size reel aka model 6930X Quote

Also make sure you grab the 30 size reel aka model 6930X It is only in 5:2:1 ratio but they have different retrieve rates http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/Pflueger%C2%AE-President%C2%AE-Spinning-Reel/1280293,default,pd.html The 6930 has a 25.2 retrieve rate Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 3, 2013 Super User Posted December 3, 2013 Shimano Sedona is in that range or a for a $30 dollars more the sahara is also a great reel too. Also don't focus on gear ratio and look at inches per turn as that is a more direct comparison. Quote
fishguy613 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 25 IPT is a good all around retrieve rate if youll be using it for all of that stuff. Slow retrieve rates are around 20, fasts are 30+ Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 3, 2013 Super User Posted December 3, 2013 The other thing to look at is if the body of the reels are any differnet between sizes. I am pretty sure for shimano reels the 2500 & 3500 reels are the same body with a different spool. Quote
wisconsin heat Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I love my Abu Cardinals, got about 5 of em, they are very solid reels, and they will run you only $30-$40. I haven't had a problem with them. I know a guy with a President and it seems really nice too, you won't go wrong with either of these. But there are also a lot of good spinning reels in this price range. Quote
awefvawervwae Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I personally use Pflueger President and love them. Best spinning reel for the money in my opinion. Quote
The Rooster Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 It is only in 5:2:1 ratio but they have different retrieve rates http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/Pflueger®-President®-Spinning-Reel/1280293,default,pd.html The 6930 has a 25.2 retrieve rate Those different retrieve rates are in inches per turn, but each one of those reels is a different size also, smaller or larger. That's how they can all be the same ratio but have different retrieve rates. There are dramatic differences in size if you could see them all side by side. Look at the line capacity for a clue. Some are ultralight sizes, some are large enough for inshore salt water fishing. There are basically about two sizes out of all of those that are right for medium powered bass fishing. Seems like the 6930X is right based on line sizes and capacity. I normally look for 100 - 150 yards/8 pound line capacity for bass fishing. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I personally use Pflueger President and love them. Best spinning reel for the money in my opinion x2 i own 3. they are all over 3 years old...i fish them usually 3 times a week...no problems with anyof them best value... IMO Quote
Super User tomustang Posted December 4, 2013 Super User Posted December 4, 2013 Going cheap on a reel and use fluorocarbon? Sedona or Cardinal SX are both nice... Quote
Super User webertime Posted December 4, 2013 Super User Posted December 4, 2013 Shimano Sonora would be my vote. Quote
FishingMastah1 Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Going cheap on a reel and use fluorocarbon? Sedona or Cardinal SX are both nice... Seaguar invisix isn't too pricy, and I don't burn through much line. Quote
Tugmaster Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Dicks has the Penn Sargus on sale this week for 25% off. That's like $49 for the 2000 series. Very nice reels. Todd Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted December 7, 2013 Super User Posted December 7, 2013 I have 2 Presidents and really like them. Smooth as silk & cast well with both braid & mono (only line's I've used w/them). The larger ones I believe are a snitch over your $50, but IMO are worth it. Good luck with whatever you get. Quote
