LivewellHero Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Where do you buy your custom handles, knobs, and other parts? I know of HawgTech, hedgehog studio, and semper if tackle. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 What "other parts" are you looking for? The Hawgtech handles are really nice and they are sponsors. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 3, 2013 Super User Posted December 3, 2013 Japan Tackle, Hi's Tacklebox, BPS, eBay, Plat, and any of the major manu's service departments. Often times, the parts line for Daiwa or Shimano is the best source for finishing your custom fitment with trim pieces like handle screws, retainer clips, tension caps, etc. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted December 3, 2013 Super User Posted December 3, 2013 I would definitely get a HawgTech, but I'm trying to get a handle to fit a T3 Ballistic Contact Hawgtech. They run a program for "early adopters" with reels not in their database. Quote
Super User webertime Posted December 3, 2013 Super User Posted December 3, 2013 I would definitely get a HawgTech, but I'm trying to get a handle to fit a T3 Ballistic Hawg Tech Curved for a Zillion will fit. Curved with red accent and cork knobs is $99 Lexa Handle with knobs and 2 bearings is less than $20 Zillion 50th handle is ~$50 but you need knobs. Quote
bootytrain Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Hedgehog has a swept carbon fiber handle for the T3B that has that nice Daiwaesque angled bends for only 59$. I have one and its super high quality for the price. Quote
Trey Harpel Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 ZPI IZE Semper FI tackle Hedgehog Avail japantackle.com Ichibahntackle Plat tackle you have to watch out for some of the cheaper handles as they are not a full carbon fiber or atleast dont feel like it as they feel like a soft graphite core and outter "carbon" layer..Over time the core compresses and loosens up on the reel handle shaft.. TRUE carbon handles like ZPI and IZE are SOLID and thus costing more.. Quote
piscicidal Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Livewell Hero, I've sold a bunch of handles for the T3 Ballistic. Also, regarding customization....I've also recently started offering custom stripping/anodizing for customers who want to match up the accents on their reel with the handle accents. I am really happy with the results. If you'd like more info, you can contact me directly at support@hawgtech.com And I can assure you that all our handles are "pure" carbon fiber. 3k twill CF throughout all layers. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=598558600180046&set=a.400118190024089.76626.400113070024601&type=1&theater Quote

My. Gosh. That's my new favorite Curado right there. Are you trying to make me go broke? I just bought a Citica 100D, and while I was planning on upgrading to a Hawg Handle sometime, that pic makes me think I'll be doing a bit more to it than that. Question: Could you anodize a spool? Or would that create problems with the steel shaft and/or the plastic brake assembly? For those who haven't tried the Hawg Handles yet, they're really great quality. I've only got one so far, but I'll be getting more. It's light, rigid, and it looks really good. I've heard a few people say they're more bulky than other aftermarket CF handles, but I can't say anything about that as I've never tried any other CF handle. Hawgtech makes their handles in the USA, not overseas, and their prices are very competitive. I'll be sticking with Hawgtech for handle upgrades. 1 Quote
piscicidal Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Fishwhittler, Thanks! It's true that our products are a little more "bulky" than some of the other CF handles, but that is by design. Robert and I wanted a handle that would be stronger than the typical JDM handle. "Zero flex". I wouldn't trust 90% of those JDM handles to winch a bass out of the Okeechobee slop. And for being supposedly "bulky" our handles are some of the lightest out there. 94mm straight handle= 25.5 grams 102mm swept handle = 24.5 grams (Total weight with knobs) When we do come out with a finesse handle, I don't think anybody will be able to touch us in terms of weight....I'm targeting under 20 grams. piscicidal Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Oh, and to answer your question. Eventually, I would like to be able to do spools. However, I need to do a lot more verification before I can offer it as a service to our customers. Quote
Fishwhittler Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I've tried to bend my Hawg Handle, and it just doesn't flex. That sucker is sturdy. Oh, and to answer your question. Eventually, I would like to be able to do spools. However, I need to do a lot more verification before I can offer it as a service to our customers. Cool. Let me know if you need a guinea pig to test spool anodizing on. Matter of fact, I've got a spare spool from an H2O Xpress Mettle you could experiment on, if you'd like. I managed to ruin the gears for that reel when I tried to polish them using the toothpaste method (which might have worked for older reels with looser tolerances, but it's nothing but damage to modern reels), so now I just use it for spare parts. The spool has a plastic brake holder similar to the Citica E, and it doesn't matter if the spool gets ruined. PM me if you're interested. 1 Quote
