Is it a good idea to lubricate the joints on travel rods or not?  If so, what should be used? I thought maybe some or you rod builders might have the answer, Thanks.

As in something like a 2 piece rod? Oil, I'd say no, it will fly off and you can say goodbye to the top half. I do anlot of fly fishing with 4 piece rods. They make stuff call furrel wax, I think that's how you spell it, put some around the outside of the male end and you will be good all day. In a pinch, roll the outside of the male end on the crevice of your nose outside of your nostril where skin oil builds up during the day, trust me, it works if your having issues with the piece flying off.

Hey Stitch,

St Croix recommends to use a quality wax on the entire rod but particularly the male ferrule ends.

I used a standard auto wax before the trip and after 5 days & thousands of casts, the rod sections barely moved at all.

There is such a thing as actual ferrule wax, but I've used bowstring wax or automotive will work as suggested. If the ferrules are in good shape and not forced together and left for extended periods you could very well get by as they are. Don't actually lube the connection as with oil etc.
