Im thinking about getting the Super Magnum just to have as much space as possible for future tackle. I am going to be co-angling in my first tournament next May and was wondering if I should get the Magnum instead. I definitely don't want to tick my boater off, that would not be a good way to start the day.

Thanks,

TCN

I own both, as well as the fisherman deluxe (essentially the slightly smaller version of the last generation magnum and the bag linked to earlier in this thread). The Super Magnum seems like a great idea and I do like it for the fact it stores practically everything, but it gets insanely heavy when fully loaded. To its credit, the bag can handle it. It's a fabulous bag in a fabulous series of bags, but maybe a bit big for its own good. It is about the size of a narrow cooler, if that helps you imagine the kind of space it would take on a boat and the challenge one faces maneuvering around it.

Yeah that is the only thing I am worried about. Do you think I should downgrade to the Magnum? Surely that is still enough space to be completely prepared as a co-angler, and stay organized. If you had to pick as a co-angler, which size would you pick?

I have the Magnum and it is bigger than you think.  It holds 9 3700 boxes and 4 3600 boxes.  Thats a lot of tackle.  I actually only carry 6 3700's in it and then I have room in the end for 2 3504 spinnerbait boxes stacked on top of each other where I keep extra line, some tools and other misc stuff I don't like loose in the pockets.  As a coangler you could easily pack enough tackle plus rain gear and lunch.  I can't imagine a coangling situation where 12 3700 boxes and 4 3600 boxes plus extra pockets etc. would be needed.

Yeah your right, I do think that will be enough room for a tournament. But I also want to be able to keep all of my tackle in the same place at one time for easy travel and organization. I posted a forum on tournament talk asking boaters what they thought about it. The replies I got said they would rather you have one big bag I could keep on the back deck of the boat or in the seat than a bunch of smaller bags scattered everywhere. As long as they had maneuverability and it didn't get in there way. If I set it in my passenger seat while fishing I think it would be just fine.

I think the Magnus is enough. Its the size I have. I bought the one without the boxes. I'm not a fan of the 2" thick Plano boxes. I have 1 item that is too thick for the thin 1 3/8th rematch boxes and that's a tri-blade buzzbait. I have 2-3731's (3.25"), 2-3750's (2"), and 4-3701 (1.38"). So I still get 8 boxes but the 2 big ones are for plastics. I have 3 side pockets with 3600 boxes and the last one is for sunscreen and bug spray. Not to mention all the little side pockets and the dedicated tool pouch is very handy.

I just got the magnum awhile back an I still have 4 boxes left to fill it's a awesome bag

Thanks man! Do you organize your tackle pretty hardcore, or are you more relaxed when it comes to organizing? I am leaning toward the Magnum now, but do like the idea of having 4 more boxes to keep more gear! I'm in between a rock and a hard place.
