Super User OkobojiEagle Posted December 2, 2013 Super User Posted December 2, 2013 For baitcasting reels that have a disconnecting level wind, the spool bearings would be the only areas of the reel that when cleaned would affect casting? Am I missing something else too obvious for me? oe Quote

Polish brake race, inside pinion gear, spool shaft (if one peice) and ends, shims,.... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 2, 2013 Super User Posted December 2, 2013 To cast, the clutch needs to work properly, as well. Nothing worse than a sticky clutch. Quote

Super User OkobojiEagle Posted December 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted December 2, 2013 Thanks for the responses... got what I wanted to know. I want to keep the casting "clean" throughout the season, but will send the reels for a "deep cleaning" and lube to a professional less often. oe Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 2, 2013 Super User Posted December 2, 2013 That's a good plan. I pretty much clean out the spool support bearings two three times a year, and get to my own reels about every 18 months. Once a year is probably good for most folks for a total breakdown and deep clean. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 The spool rims and frame are easy to clean with a swab of alcohol. A small amt. of contamination here can be noticeable Quote
