Got out today for about an hour from 430-530.  About 5th cast I hooked into a nice fish, I was retrieving and then letting it rise and felt the tap on the rise and set the hook and the rod about got ripped out of my hands bc this fish didn't budge.  Stayed down the whole time and right as it was about to jump it spit out my crank and I just got a look at the tail.  Fished the crank for about 45 min w only that one hit.  Switched to a senko wacky rigged and tossed it out to the same spot and hooked into what I assume was the same fish.  Fought the same way, stayed down took out some drag and put up a really nice fight.  Ended up being 19.5" and was 4lbs 6oz.  Pretty nice fish.  Pulled in one smaller one on the senko in those 15 min.  Also missed one on a frog, really surprised me bc frog fishing has been dead for me.  Casted out the frog and was just letting it sit there I was staring off at something in the woods and felt a little bump looked over and saw my frog had just been sucked down.  Had to much of a jerk reaction and missed that one.  This culls the second of my 14s and should bring me to 90" for the month.

Been too busy to fish....work work work. But it has been more fun than fishing lately. Just read the Chris Lane article and I know it, fishing too fast I know it too. The break and this comp has only made me fish faster! Ahhhhh!

I had a day so my son and i went out to a new lake and tryed for 3 hours and got skunked, moved to a smaller lake nearby and was able to get 3 fish, 20", 18 1/2" and a 13, all on crankbaits, kvd green 1.5, a very slow bite today, and then when i went to get a pics my camera was dead, so i used my cell, but i am having a hard time getting it to send out, so hopefully later i can post pics

ok, here we go, finally got the pictures '

My son Joe got the 20 1/2"

and i got the 18 1/2"

Lou, i think we can cull a 15 for Joe, i think that puts him at 93 1/2"
and with the 18 1/2" that puts me at 53"

That fish moved you to 83" which places you in 4th place.

3 is better than none. At least 2 out of 3 were contest worthy. Hope you get the pic situation fixed.

Mutt your numbers are correct. Joe has jumped up to 1st place again, and you have 53". A 9 yr old is leading the way. That's awesome. WTG!!

Where to start!!!

Went out this morning around 8ish to my course. Didn't get a bite at my first two spots so I moved to the back, always have luck there. Was there around 8:50 and they were in search and destroy mode on my KVD 1.5 it was amazing haven't had a day like this EVER (u will see later lol). Tomorrow when I get back I will take a pic of my KVD it is beat up by the amount of fish it has caught/missed would have thought I had it for years opposed to few weeks! I stayed in the back for under a hour and caught 15 fish (9 which are comp worthy but it's someone's else's turn this month).

It was funny I was as if I was putting on a show for the mothers walking their dogs and people getting in their morning jog lol. Seemed like every time someone asked me if I had luck I was like yea and would hook one right in front of them! Two ladies that were jogging together saw me catch a fish as they passed me the first time and then again when they came back. I had a nice fat one when this guy was standing next to me it jumped once and guy was like holy expletive, then he went back down and somehow my crank comes flying out the water and hooks into my stomach, only pinched my skin though. I was there for less than a hour and my girl called asking me to bring her some medicine.

So I left the frenzy and stopped at CVS got her what she needed then was heading home. For some reason I decided to stop at this big natural lake that I see every day on way to my course and home. Only thug about this spot is u can't park by it unless u have a truck or SUV and only parking is on the other side by this sporting field. I park and grab my pole not expecting to catch anything. There is a bunch of high grass and it's swampy around the edges. So I make a few casts and then IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!! Boom at first I was like I had to have snagged a gator or big turtle. Til I got her kinda close to where I could see her tail... Then she took back off I didn't even fight it because I had déjà vu from that time with Czar all I was thinking is NOOOOOO ITS ON THE MONOOOOOOO. Fortunately there aren't any pads that she could get hung up on but I didn't know if there was anything on the bottom. Well I got her to the edge and I plow through the tall grass and swamp disregarding the possibility that I would run into a moccasin (I was on the look out the WHOLE time for one til she got hooked then I was like the Crocodile Hunter at that point lmao). Figures the ONLY time I'm not prepared is when this happens!! I wanted to keep her but the only reason why I didn't is because where I was parked there was families and a cop there so I didn't want any issues with the officer, my fishing license isn't current but they can't harass u for that I heard. I would have looked crazy carrying this thing across the street and to my car lol.

Sucks I have no stats on her except for the fact that she was massive! Easily my PB but can't put a number to it in any way.

I'm going back tomorrow so I will throw up the pic, I think it's safe to say that I accomplished my feat of big fish of the month. No crazy picture angles or anything to make it look bigger like some people do on this site, but may be disqualified since I didn't have anything to weigh her with. Regardless you will all enjoy seeing her (swear this isn't the Czar PB (personal best as in smallest) from last month lol.

Another side note is when I first reeled her in I saw two big wakes on the side of her so I think she was in a school! And I have heard that bass tend to school with fish of similar size which I hope is true because that means there's other monsters in here.

Editing pic spot stealers alert lol

I was talking to a guy at Dicks last night and he was telling me when a fish slams the crank not to set the hook let it set itself. He said because when you set the hook it causes a tear so the tear is much bigger than after you set it oppose to if you let it happen naturally. He says that he increases his hook ups that way.

Seems like that would make sense. I got a few packs of trebles to change out the standard ones though just to be safe

I was able to go out today for about 2.5 hours. It was nice to get out after a hectic and stressful week. I caught several fish but none that I deem contest worthy. The coolest part is, I caught all of these fish on my new Lews reel. I swapped my MG from my Avid for the TT Pro. I have been itching to use this reel and I couldn't wait for the following week til I went to glades. LOL.  Here is my mini review in case someone is interested.

The TT Pro compared to MG are identical in size and the paddle knobs are the same. After that the differences begin. The TT Pro imo is a nicely refined MG. For example: the TT Pro has a nice carbon fiber handle that's really accentuates the reel, plus making it a little lighter. The TT also has a dual braking system which really helps dial the reel in nicely. The retrieve is nice and smooth and plus I got the High speed model in 7:1 so the IPT is higher. I couldn't test the drag today because the fish weren't big enough to challenge this reel. Casting was effortless and it covered great distances with ease.. I was able to cast a 4 inch stick bait to the other side of a bigger than avg canal with a flick of the wrist. Overall I am very happy I was able to get this reel. I can't wait to use this reel in the glades when the big girls decide to come out and play. Hope this helps someone.

Exactly what happened to me today. I hooked the biggest bass I have ever seen and I made the fatal mistake of setting the hook hard. He came to the top and spit the crank back at me. Man, IF only I would have gotten that one.
