Jacob044 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 a question for everyone, do you read/use the solunar tables when planning a fishing trip, have you noticed anything about good vs bad days I myself have noticed more activity on strong solunar days, but that does'nt mean i will catch more fish just wondering???? mutt, I found a new honey hole this week and have pulled 23 fish from it in 5 days. So, I though I would test the tables on it today. The times were generally 12:00 and 5:00 for best times and I got absolutely nothing. I haven't relied on them much in the past and with today results, I don't think I will rely on them in the future. I was wondering myself if some of the other guys find them accurate. I don't Quote
fstr385 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 How'd you do at Okeechobee? I have always wanted to fish there, it's my dream spot! I heard one average the lake is very shallow which is perfect for the way I like to fish. I have seen numerous monsters pulled out of there on a consistent basis on YouTube and tournaments on TV. It stunk! I tried a new spot out of south bay so on top of not knowing the area, it was smoggy, foggy, rainy, and windy as hell. We found a few small fish but got annoyed and left. I also figured it wouldnt be as busy as clewiston where we normally go, but that was only at the ramp. I guess everyone goes in from slims. Sooo 27 was on the way home and we hit that in a new spot at which point 10 minutes on the way out rain came. Then we went south toward some airboat place to try and it followed us lol. So we gave up and went home wet and angry.id The weather forecast was 10-20% around noon which wasnt the case. But yea, most of the time its very good fishing out there. Some fish have began spawning in there already too. Going to make a return down on the next full moon if possible. If Quote

Yea with the weather not warming up and not getring much action around 11 we opted to go to the rim which was pretty stained, and figured warmer down below, but by then I was frustrated. Maybe if I knew the area I would habe stayed but....The rim up near pelican might not have been so bad. I thought about goin up that way too but I was just grumpy and gave up. We didnt even get on the water till probably 830-9. Quote

The fish will be hanging out in the thins for warmth and spawning. They are spawning right now, and wont stop till around Feb-Mar. Best bet is to play around in the airboat trails and get into the flats and look for holes in the grass. You have a good little boat to get out there. Quote

We even went blazing out of the trails where there were no trails into grass and pad fields lol. Your right though. Just didnt know the area, was late, weather sucked, and I was pissy... just a bunch of negatives that dont make good fishing. Next time. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted December 3, 2013 Author Super User Posted December 3, 2013 I don't share much, but since this is related to fishing, and I am bouncing off the walls, what the heck!! One of my clients was very generous to me for X-mas (for which I am very humbled by this gesture) and as a result I pulled the trigger on the next outfit that I have been wanting for a while. I will be receiving by next week a Dobyns Champion 736C and LEWS Tournament Pro HS 7:1. "Can't wait" is an understatement!! Quote

We need to get a gathering of us out there soon. Quote

dsidle61 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Well I only got out for about 15 min this evening after waking up from an after work nap. caught this little guy (14") on a 6" senko watermelon red flake wacky rigged. Had 2 more strikes that I missed in that short period. So it looks like im starting small this month and with limited time to fish (heading back to PA for a week around Christmas) I need to start pulling in some fish! Luckily my wife is out of town this week so im hoping to log a long afternoon evening tomorrow after work. Quote

Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 4, 2013 Super User Posted December 4, 2013 Got me a nice one this morning at the golf course. Gator knows. Didn't have anything to measure, but I did take a picture next to my rod and reel, and will figure out the length with a ruler and the picture later. I will also post the pic later after work. She was a jumper too. Caught her on a Pad Crusher. Its funny that I had stopped last night after work using the Type-R rig, and hooked into a nice one about the same size, but it took me into the pads. After about 5 minutes of trying to get her out, the line finally gave. So, out came the frog rod this morning, lol. This time she didn't get away. My guess is she was close to 20". 1 Quote

dsidle61 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 had a decent day today on the water. got off work at 130 and headed right to the water. caught 2 fish at my first stop, one 18" the other a dink. missed another that looked to be a decent fish. caught it on a kvd 1.5 sexy shad crank around 250pm. fishing it right through the middle of pads. took me awhile to get this one in musta got hung up 5 times but she stayed on bc the entire crank was absolutely inhaled. one I missed got hung up in the pads and eventually wiggled off. headed across town to my pond near home. caught one on the same crank but not tape measure worthy. cranks went dead around 5 so switched to the senko and caught 2 more. one 18.5" and another not for the tape measure. this one weighed in at 3.8lbs which was a pretty decent weight for the size. I apologize for the awful pic, im working on improving this measuring device you can see the cm on the top and I just googled the conversion to make sure it was right. I don't like how it is only numbered every 2 inches so when I remember im going to fix it for the future. I believe these two fish put me at 50.5" total with three fish (18.5, 18, 14) Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 5, 2013 Super User Posted December 5, 2013 Here is the pic, I figure I would add a pic of the rig to give an idea of the length of the fish. What a fight, got me a nice little hole to stop at before and after work. I would go with a good 21" for it. I just wasnt prepared, sorry. Quote
